One of my favourite actors, Patrick McGoohan, is dead at 80.

McGoohan is best remembered for his role in ThePrisoner but he was , also, an exceptionally versatile performer in films and on TV.

MgGoohan as No. 6 in The Prisoner

McGoohan as Edward I (Longshanks) in Braveheart

" I will not be marked, counted, correlated, indexed, catagorized..."
Great lines...one of my favourite early sunday morning shows with my baby boys....
Best remembered as Long Shanks, great actor.
So Long Mr. McGoohan

I remember him from Secret Agent too.  Very enjoyable to watch.  Guess I am showing my age some, more and more actors I enjoyed as a kid back in the day are dropping off.

For me some of the current younger crop don't have the same presence as men such as these.

Secret Agent?! My, that's going back many years and in Britain too!!  A little out of my era.. ;D

I loved Tomasina were he played father of the two children and of course a Scottish Doctor. Saw it on Wonderful World of Disney as a kid. Loved Secret Agent and The Prisoner.

Wasn't much of a fan of "The Prisoner" much preferred "Danger Man" aka "Secret Agent".  Now, since reading this thread, I can't get the theme song out of my head.

"There's a man who leads a life of danger
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
With every move he makes another chance he takes
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow

Secret agent man, secret agent man
They've given you a number and taken away your name"

That was what immediately poped in my head as soon as I heard of his passing.  Can't get it out either, but that's ok as I like the song too.  ;D

Some shows from the era stick in what's left of my mind more than others.  For instance "Captain Scarlet" instead of "Thunderbirds".  "Gomer Pyle USMC" more than "Green Acres".

Dang now I have that "Yes Sgt. Carter" and "Shazam" going through my head. Can you imagine someone as naive as Gomer Pyle really going through USMC Basic Training?

Maybe it's my aluminium pot syndrome but I remember Gomer always saying " Golly Sgt Carter " with the Golly being drawn out in that gentle backwoods twang of his.  Now you've got that running through my head but at least Secret Agent is silent now. ;D And no, I imagine a kind hearted soul like Gomer would not be in todays USMC.

I have to admit, the first time I ever saw or heard of Mr. McGoohan was when I saw him portraying the king on Braveheart. I do hope he enjoyed that role because he did such a masterful job of playing an absolute prycke.

"Bring this Wallace to me> Alive if possible... Dead ? (shrugs) ...just as good".

"Arrows cost money. The dead cost nothing".

"But Sire, we'll hit our own troops".
"Yes, but we'll hit theirs as well".

"Irish..."

RIP Mr. McGoohan.

I can't him going through the 1960's Marine Corp either. The DI's would chew him up and spit him out. Can you imagine if both Gomer and Goober went in? Goober wouldn't be able to get the dumb smile off his face for the life of me. Now the Goooollllly is coming back.

Let's leave the Gomer/ Goober stuff out of a thread dedicated to a true thespian, Mr. McGoohan, shall we?

IF they are that important to you, start another thread.

It took a special talent to write, produce, direct and star in such a series as The Prisoner. The 17 episodes seemed like a lot more to me, maybe it was that bouncing bubble that kept me mesmerized.
