What should we do to the traitors that refuse to leave?

Make their lives hell until they do so or if there is the evidence to do so, QR&Os and charges. As an example:

103.27 – TRAITOROUS OR DISLOYAL UTTERANCES
(1) Section 94 of the National Defence Act provides:

"94. Every person who uses traitorous or disloyal words regarding Her Majesty is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years or to less punishment."

That said, I'd need a lawyer's opinion if this is relevant, would traitorous words against Her Majesty's Government fit here?

I suspect he is not the only asset they have recruited - the better ones won't get caught until much later.
That task was likely a proving job, to see if he was worth more efforts.

If someone feels that strongly about it then reporting them to the CFNCIU is a good step. You seems like a nice enough fellow but I wouldn't trust you as the convening authority on who should be run out of the CAF.

You're passionate about this, I get it. How far would you go to make someone's life hell when you think know they're a traitor and you're absolved by being righteous?

Someone wanted to make Maj Christian Hiestand's life hell and they succeeded.

If I could go back to the original post in this thread about this young guy getting caught spying for Russia…

I’m guessing that either he had poor judgment or was recruited here in Canada, possibly initially through Russian misinformation. Signing up to do “humanitarian” work in Russian-occupied Donbas strikes as poor decision making or being in the thrall of Kremlin propaganda. Then flying to Turkey and lying to his mum about where he was actually going appears as further evidence of being dodgy and not naive.

I’m guessing a few alphabet soup agencies are going to want to talk to this kid.

This should be a reminder to all the lowly Class A Pte.s and Cpl.s that they are valued by our adversaries as potential assets. It’s kind of hard to realize that in everyday life at an armoury, but they are exposed to things and knowledge that is not generally well known to the general public for a reason.

Sorry to soap box on you. I've seen some really bad endings to good intentions and it's kind of stuck.

Totally agree there should be zero tolerance. I think there's a line between CAF members spouting off about becoming the 51st state to get a dopeamine hit out of other peoples reactions, and crossing into traitorous behavior and a security threat.

Then again we don't, or shouldn't, down play someone making gay jokes when it's "just for fun".

It will be interesting to see if there were any telltale signs from this reservist prior to leaving, or through his social media activity. And the incoming DLN course.

A quick look didn't find any username similar to his real name, but a search did provide a mention in a referenced news article (in a post from 2006) of whom I assume is his father being welcomed back from overseas by wife with child in her arms.
