Hey everyone,

I got a call today saying I’ve been selected to become a Signals Officer. It was actually my last choice when I ranked my preferences, so I’ll admit I don’t know a whole lot about the trade yet.

I’m trying to understand what the day-to-day life is like and what the actual tasks look like once you’re in a unit. What does a normal work day involve? Is it mostly planning and managing communications systems, or are you also hands-on with the equipment?

I’m also curious about things like field exercises, deployments, and how technical the job gets. Do Signals Officers spend a lot of time working with radios, networks, and comms infrastructure, or is it more leadership/coordination?

If anyone here is a Signals Officer (or has worked with them), I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience and what the job is actually like.

Thanks!

It really depends what unit you are posted to. I know some are currently academics, some are running schools, and everything in between. They over see trades like IST, Cyber, SIgint, Sig ops and others. Really depends.

Thanks a lot :)

Good luck with your first suit of pop can tab chain mail.

I don't get it sorry.
Disparaging comment about us signallers LARPing on our off time.

Don't worry, there are a few normal folks within the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.

Congratulations on joining the oldest and finest Signals Corps on the Commonwealth!
