Sleeping bag replacement?

Any one heard anything solid about the possibility of the sleeping bags being replaced in the next few years?

I just want to build off of this thread. I know nothing about the repacement, but I would like to know how to get the...welll, "aroma" out of my fart sack. Got 'er dry cleaned, by that didn't really help. Febreezed 'er and that was ok, for awhile. It's not that bad, but, rather not have it, especially when it is cold, and I shove my head inside. It gets unpleasant.

So? Fart less? Use more deodorant?

well i have had the smell before and i would say is use the cotton liner and wash that if you don't put the cotton liner into the sleeping bag then get into and sleep, you end up haveing your body come in contact with the sleeping bag material witch will absorbe all your odours and to get ride of this i say hang the thing up so it can breath for a bit that is my answear to the question even in the winter you can do it just aslong as it stays cold and your sleepign bag doe's not get wet if it doe's you run into more probleams. my idea of gettig ride of the odour is only a suggestion i em shure lots of people have different ideas and ways to fix it.

You're supposed to exchange your sleeping bag once a year, or more if it's dirty, for cleaning... they'll send it for dry cleaning.

Oh, and part of the problem may come from the fact that you put your head inside your sleeping bag. This generates moisture inside the bag, which can lead to you being colder in the short run, and mould in the long run. Either use the issued hood, or wear a toque.

Actually, I have never slept like that. Part of the problem is that I am just too big for the damn thing. That is most likely not the issue. You're right, I just typed that part without thinking. But we are supposed to exchange them every year? Had mine actually 4 days over a year...so how does it work? Go down to the ACU or QM?

Wherever you got the bag from. Just bring it back, ask for a new one, mention that the one you have needs to be cleaned.

I've only heard rumors of it being replaced, but there is a new CADPAT poncho liner that zips up to replace the sleeping bag liner too, it has a zip-up head hole in the middle so you can wear it like a moomoo or cape, kinda like a superhero, Captain CADPAT!

It would be great if they replaced our circa - 1950's sleeping bag with a modern, lightweight, compact one. I use a softie bag in the field and it is the cat's-ass! Highly recommend spending the dough, I got mine in the UK, but they sell them at the 1 RCR kit shop...

The concept of the old bag is sound, inner, outer, liner, and it works quite well, it's just so huge... and it doesn't respond well to moisture or water...

I personally would like to see it replaced with a similar design with modern materials (Primarily, replace the down with somthing else). Making it in a tall version and in a wide version would probably be nice too...

Snugpak rocks....

I have the Camo Sleeper 2+ and used it in the artic tent, inside a bivy bag....cosy.

I heard that in 10+ yrs once the ruck issue etc is complete they will look at replacing the sleeping bag system. Thing is, the down filled ones we have are still as good, if not better then synthetics.

on another note. Polar fleece is polar fleece. you can get a decent bag from Can Tire or Walmart for about $25. CP and kitshops charge $60+. And the new CADPAT liner is only issued to Cbt arms....

As to the question about size issues I have known a couple of members that have had sleeping bags specially ordered for them do to the size.  See your local clothing stores about this.

I asked a few years ago, as I find the issued bag a bit short for my 6' 1.5" frame.  I can get in it, but feel rather "constrained".  Unfortunately, I was told that the minimum height required to qualify for the alternative-issue Wiggy's bag (a far superior modern system) is 6'3".  Hmmm - now that I think about it, I wonder if I could make the argument that I am over 6'3" with my boots on and have frequently been required to sleep fully clothed on operations.....  Could be a cunning plan!  Likely doomed to failure, but perhaps worth a shot nonetheless.....  ;)

Wiggy's, eh? Being 6'4" what do I do, go down to the stores and say "I wanna Wiggy!"?

If you ask like that, come back here and let us know what they give you !!  ;D

(Primarily, replace the down with somthing else)

Down has several features that give it a big advantage over synthetic.  It's much it's more efficient at keeping warmth, it does a better job at keeping it's shape and as such lasts much longer than synthetic (and you know the bigwigs care about that one) and you don't need to fold it or anything, so you can quickly scrunch it away.

The main dissadvantage is that if you get down wet, it takes forever to dry, and might be ruined, oh and if the seams go in the shell then it will clump and provide uneven warmth.

I personally like the 3 part system they have right now, and don't see much need for improvement besides perhaps the liner.

As of Wed we are turning in our Ranger blankets/poncho liner/flannel liner for a "thermal blanker"

Thermal blanket, eh? Wonder what that will be like. I mean, I love my ranger blanket as it is, so i take it that will be even better.

I am assuming its a fleece type blanket that can double as a poncho liner.  But we all know about assuming.
