Soldier Operational Clothing and Equipment Modernization

Why is that? I haven’t worn the US or Brit stuff but it’s all Gore-Tex, no?
Better quality material, better quality sewing and sealing the seams, they paid attention to areas where water comes in.
I agree with KevinB the stuff is louder but it works.

I wonder if they are going to have to change the colour of the underwear now. I'm pretty sure it is currently green so that it doesn't stand out in combat pants that have see-through portions.
Urban legend is that is the exact reason why the t-shirt contract was changed (at no additional cost) from green to brown, and that a similar change to the long underwear contract was forgotten about because the decision was made in the summertime.

The new base layers will be coyote brown except for the T-shirt issued to RCAF pers, their T-shirts will be blue.

Somewhat unrelated, but I wanted to see if I there was an actual answer to this one. Why are certain trades allowed to wear trade badges in combats, while others aren't? For example, trade badges are authorized for those in the armoured trade, but not for the infantry.

What do you mean? Like your recce or para wings on the left arm?

I haven't seen anyone wear the infantry badge in combats, in fact I haven't seen an infantry trade badge for combats.

Right. One would assume that the myriad of quals that the infantry has enough badges for would suffice.

direct fire, pioneer, mortar, recce etc etc.

Isn’t it redundant though? If someone has a PPCLI cap badge and “PPCLI” on their rank slide, does anyone really need to re-emphasize that they are, in fact, Infantry?

I can sort of understand folks wearing trade badges if their cap badge and wording under their rank is more generic, like HRAs or FSAs who wear the paperclip and “Logistics” under their rank.

Random aside, is there any timeline for new rain gear in the new CADPAT pattern? I have not seen anything or if I have it’s been forgotten.

I’m not in the project but since CCUE also included rain gear, I’d expect that they are waiting for that.
