Split from Pay scale

I have learned quite a bit from members of this site too, however, the way newcomers are treated by some, not all, on this site, often leaves little to be desired.  If you have read the entire thread you will notice of course that I am not the only one to voice this concern.  There is a reason for that.  The first responces to this thread were not as nice as they could have been.  I just dont think, we, as a CF community, do ourselves any favors by responding to newbies this way.

And what is wrong with the first response to this thread?

Its blunt and straight to the point.

I dont beleive in mincing words therefore i dont. If you have any other issues, feel free to fire off a PM to me but i certainly dont have to justify myself to you. As far as leadership is concerned, my PER speaks for itself  but thanks anyways.

The tone of the first few responces could have been dialed down some...  If you look a what I said in my first post in this thread, we all seem to be in general agreement as to the overall benefits of the CF and that money cannot be your only reason for joining.  I found that those initial responces made unfair assumptions about the original poster.

I dont recall ever expressing a desire for you to justify yourself to me, or anyone else, nor do I recall directly singling you out.  I dont beleive in mincing words either, but I do think there would be some value in not being so harsh with newer members.  As I mentioned before, alot of us complain that we suffer from manpower issues, and rightfully so.  But what I think we sometimes forget is, that, often, posters from this site could be the very first contact that many of these new people have with members of the CF.  What kind of message are we sending them by being overly harsh?  There is immense value in your experience and your insight, I have personally benefited from many of your posts, but I dont think some of the new guys will get much out of it, if it appears they are being swatted down.

If the newbies take the initiative to use the search function or look at the FAQ's first rather than post the first thing that comes out of their heads then we wouldn't be so harsh on them.

I agree.  Of course, everyone thinks their question is so unique, that it can't possibly have been answered already.  ::)
