Summer Basic Training?

I got interested in the army training after my friend told me he was going to try out. He said there was a paid summer training program (non-commissioned members) which lasts for 2 months.

I searched through the Forces.ca site and some others, but I failed to find the program he specified. I found the "Basic Training" thing itself, but its a bit too long "intensive 13-week course" which I will not have enough time to do in the summer alone. So have I missed the page or visited the wrong site?

Secondly, I have a question about the body build. I'm turning 17 in a few weeks, Asain, really active and played competitive sports before, so I'm thinking that I'm decently prepared after looking at the requirements (pushups, situps, chinups). But upon looking at some videos of the people who go through training, they all look a older (20s) and A LOT stronger than me, which is giving me some second thoughts.

Lastly, if I want to apply, will it be more effective if I complete the forms and submit it online or visit one of the recruitment centers (it is the Christmas Break so I'm not sure if they are open).

Thank you for your time reading my post and have a Merry Christmas.

cypres 78 I believe lei100200 was referring to some form of program associated with the Reserves.
Programs similar to this were available in the past.
Some people continued in the Reserves after the summer, some quit after the summer & some quit during the summer.

You are thinking of the Reserves. This is what I will be doing hopefully this summer. This is an amazing opportunity to gain knowledge of military life and how it would be like doing basic training. I suggest you do a little more research on this and figure out if the Cf is really for you. This is a commitment and not just a summer job to most of us.

I suggest you do a little more research yourself. The reserves IS the military and BMQ in the reserves is not like basic training, it is basic training.

Reserve BMQ is Regular BMQ condensed to the extreme. According to a Sergeant in my course staff, a lot of stuff got cut for my course, like the obstacle course and 13km ruckmarch/BFT.

The mechanics of what is taught on one course versus the other isn't really my point. What I am trying convey to the poster is that the Reserves is not the Canadian Forces light, it is a part of the Canadian Forces. I don't want the OP to get the idea that the Reserves is some sort of trial program for the Reg force. Reservists play an important role and that begins right at BMQ.

What I meant about my post above is that if he goes for the summer and then quits he isnt really getting the most out of the CF. Reserve BMQ is a lot easier ( from what I have read and heard about ) then regular forces. I did not mean to imply that it is not still your BMQ it is just a bit different. :cdn:

And I well know that Reserves is part of the CF and did not mean to imply that It was not either. However, Reserves is great for someone who wants to test the waters before deciding to join the regular force.
