Now that the cons are in power, I'd be interested to know what people's opinions are on the proposed territorial defence and army QRF battalions.

Personally, I don't really know where they where heading with this from the start. These units may very well be useful for disaster-relief, but would it not be wiser to rely on DART for these types of missions while using most of their 13,000 recruiting quota to alot troops to the under-manned brigades?

...Maybe create a new brigade?

Just some musings.

Bring Back The Canadian Guards.

The Canadian Guards were reduced to Nil Strength, so they still exist in the Order of Battle.  They were the only truly 'Canadian' Infantry Regiment, in the sense that each of their Companies were recruited from different Regions of Canada.  As we know, the RCR are made up mostly of soldiers from Central Canada and Maritime provinces; the R22R from Quebec, and the PPCLI from the West.  The Canadian Guards recruited from all provinces.  Bring them back and post their Companies and Bns into the various Regions and Cities of the nation.

Today "Canadian Guards" would have some interesting and unexpected connotations; some people would consider it a description of the Regiment's duties (i.e. DOMOPS), while others would equate it with the "National Guard". Just another example of the dissapearence and corruption of our heritage under Trudopeia.

On the other hand, I do like the pan Canadian aspect of the Guard Regiment, and it could be a strong selling point in many ways.

Last point; DOMOPS needs different skill sets (or at least different prioraties) from conventional warfighting, so maybe we should be looking at rapid reaction Engineer squadrons; Field hospitals and Ambulance units and Sigs Squadrons, and an enhanced helicopter and short/medium range airlift assets for this role. For the most part, existing Reserve units can be "bulked up" to act as the Vanguard force since they are already there. Local service battalions should be able to field transport companies with enough trucks to handle "surge" deployments, and Reserve Brigade HQs should have adiquate C4I resources to be able to manage this crew.

Bring back to regular force strength

Inf:
Cdn Guard
The Black Watch
1 and 2 Cdn Para Bn (use thse for convensional airborne stuff - like the 82nd Div - and keep CSOR to JTF support/like 75th RR)
Armoured:
VIII CH
Artillery
3 and 4 RCHA

Wrong George
Depending on the needs of each regiment is where people go to and come from. Yes each bn has a 'home' area as you describe but not a specific recruiting territory as per the British system.

Guess I worded that wrong.  Each of the Companies represented a different Region.  The Canadian Guards recruited from across all of Canada, unlike the other Regiments, who were more Regional.

Ahhhhhh Artorious

Tru-DOPE-edia indeed!

Otherwise know as when Canada met the Dilletant and fell for Style over substance.....
