I have volunteered for a TFA deployment and have been told to write my own impact statement. I have searched the DIN but have come up empty. Can anyone help me out.

PigPen, what are you trying to show with your impact statement?  The impact your absence will have on your civilian oe military job? Or what your contribution will have on JTF-Afg. Not sure what you want...

Gunner, beat me to most of it...

Hmm... sounds like you're from Ottawa  ;D

Impact statment... I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering, but what would the statement be pertaining to? Impact on your unit, should they lose you to a deployment for an extended period of time, or impact on your family with you being gone for an extended period of time?

Not that it has a lot of bearing, but are you reg or reserve? What is your rank level?

I have heard of people being requested to submit memo's substantiating their request for deployment, but I have never heard of units requesting an Impact Statement. (nobody who I am deploying with has mentionned anything about such a statement)

I am afraid that your best bet may be to go to your chain of command and ask them to explain what it is that they want from you.  This may be a local form.

Cheers

I am a Reg force MS. The impact statement has been requested by my CO in regards to the impact to my unit if selected for a deployment. IE. backfilling my position and the effect that would have on the school ect.

Impact Statements are usually provided to SJS by COs of units who are tasked to deploy someone. The Impact Statement would say "if I deploy MS Xylophone to TFA the effect of his/her absence on my unit would be XXXXXX".  It will also include a mitigation strategy whereby your CO has weighed the risks associated with letting you deploy and has put in place (or is requesting support to put in place) a strategy to minimize the impact of your absence.  SJS will then review this in light of the operational requirements of TFA and decide if you will deploy or not.

Since you're a Reg F member who volunteered for a deployment, your unit is under no obligation to send you.

PigPen,

Just reading your post what came to mind was either: a. Your CO is dicking you around or b. Someone is using the CO's name to dick you around.

Deploying will make you a better soldier, sailor, airman or air woman who will have a much broader perspective of how the CF operates in a counter insurgency environment.  As far as backfill is concerned, your position can be left vacant for the period you are away or it could be an opportunity for another junior rank to be given increased reponsibilities (under supervision of course) or if you operate in a PY environment, there could be an internal resuffling of resources.

Bottom line is writing an impact assessment on your potential deployment sounds questionable.

My 2 cents.
