The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

No such thing as a super majority in Canada. It’s a majority or it’s not. Obviously the stronger the better.

Talk about picking pepper from fly shit... You're factually correct in that we don't have the true political effect of a super majority, but I'm not sure that's what the OP meant. He just meant a big honking majority. I think you knew that...

Anyways here's an example of our lauded CBC using the term:

As for guns, woe be the CPC majority that doesn't fix our firearms legislation in favor of firearms owners.

A Conservative MP was asked how long it would take for a new Conservative government to rescind the Liberals Gun Laws and OIC, after an election. He said "eventually" as there will be a lot to do.

He is correct, there is a lot to do. But they best understand the roughly 13% of Canadians who own firearms are watching and expecting changes.

As you dig in the data you will see we are a vote rich demographic.

My money is the the Conservatives already having legislation waiting for finalization on a number of topics. I expect the docket on new bills is going to be quite high and will be enacted pretty darn quick after the election.

At least I hope.

A super majority is a different beast and is a specific term so no, not sure he knew that or not. No such thing at the federal level. There was no picking fly shit out of pepper.
lol. You quoting the CBC is rich…

However that is specific to the N.S. legislature and is not the same practice in the HoC. And in the N.S. it is only for procedural changes to the legislature not any requirement for legislation.

So I will amend my point by saying no such thing at the federal level (and is only specific to certain things provincially).

regardless of how big the majority is for the CPC all they need is a simple majority to try and change the laws without resistance in the house. They could certainly use procedural tricks that they and the LPC have used more often than not like limiting debate and pushing through comitee which they will certainly control. The issue is still the Senate. And then appeals to the SoC if the legislation is bad.

Agreed but I doubt they can fix it the way people want them to. We’ll see but I suspect that many will be disappointed. But they can blame the senators that do try and block, delay etc

When used in connection with the US electoral standard. I would also say there is colloquial verbiage as well as it was in this case.

I had to make sure it would be a source that would suit your.... Sensibilities and politics.

If there was a moving the goal posts .gif I would put it here.

Yes, and we’ve seen plenty of people confuse American politics with Canadian politics. Nothing in my statement was meant to be confrontational. You made it that way. It was for accuracy. Something you hate at times but that’s your problem not mine. I know your aversion to defining terms.

Ah and here I thought it was your usual occasional hypocrisy on some things. I stand corrected again I guess. But it looks like you didn’t even read it based on your use of that source,
If there was a moving the goal posts .gif I would put it here.
No moving goal post. Not sure you understand what that is. But I at least can admit if I’ve erred and can clarify.

But hey you do you, I expect no less.

Cheers and Happy New year.

I will ignore your insults and accept your admission.

And a happy new year to you and yours as well.
