The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

LILLEY: Carney misses mark on gun buy-back, spends foolishly on pet project

The government is going to contact every gun owner (heh) and provide information about surrendering their guns to the police.

Except most police departments don't seem interested and are refusing to be a part.

Maybe the government can get the military to collect the firearms? Threaten to cancel the pay raise if they don't take part.

I would refuse that order and take what comes. Consider me conscientious objector like those that wouldn't take the jab.

GoC can take a flying f@ck at a rolling donut on this one.

Respectfully, I disagree.

I think the number of CPC voters he would gain from scrapping this (and/or changing laws/policies to be more pro-gun) would pale in comparison to the number of LPC voters he would lose to the Bloq and/or NDP.

How many of you CPC voters would vote liberal if the only thing he did differently from what he is doing is make gun ownership easier?
Right now I think Carney is mostly making the right moves forward.

If he drops the gun control nonsense it might actually make me vote differently. As it stands I refuse to vote for a government that scapegoats and criminalizes me for simply owning property.

Clearly, you didn't watch the Public Safety announcement yesterday.

Even if he does a 180 for now, a future LPC government - and certainly there will be some - will change it right back. Anyone who is a pro-gun single issue voter would be a sucker to ever vote LPC.

You don't even need to be a conscientious objector; you just have to not want to get shot by some nut job who absolutely refuses to give up their guns and shoots you for trying.

Well one way to trigger a US invasion would be to send the CAF to get people’s guns.
Heck it wouldn’t even be by DoD initially.

It could also be the result of police going to a wrong or outdated address and encountering the wrong person based on data that was culled from old long gun registry records.

Given that there are tens if not hundreds of thousands of guns which will not be compensated for there are a lot of Canadians who are going to get screwed. There are currently 126,000 registered restricted which are now prohibs that the government knows about. Funding will cover only 152,000 firearms which means only an additional 26,000 previously unknown non-restricted firearms will be paid for. Everyone else is SOL.

The limited funding leads me to think they are hoping secretly for mass non compliance and/or people to just Dewat their guns on their own.
That way the government doesn’t have to spend money and can just pretend this doesn’t exist.

What if, and stay with me, what if...

The Minister for PS and his recorded interaction is all a psy-op. Carney expects this to fail and wants it to fail, so he can kill it with substantiation. And say look we tried, its just too much for nothing.

I need to get some air lol

Acceptable deactivation has to meet a very strict standard and it's not a DIY job in most cases as a gunsmith has to sign off on it. I read somewhere that they will reimburse deactivation up to, I think $800.

I would be refusing a lawful command, assuming its lawful.

Alberta not playing ball. God bless Americ... er Alberta.

“Simply put, Alberta’s government will not be enforcing this gun grab, and we will make clear to law enforcement that this is not an enforcement priority. We expect them to focus their time and resources on real provincial policing priorities – like violent criminals, not hunters and sport shooters,” said the ministers in a joint statement.

The two ministers clarified that Alberta has already taken steps to limit the reach of the program, including blocking municipalities from creating patchwork firearms bans and requiring anyone who seizes, stores, or destroys firearms in Alberta to be licensed through the Chief Firearms Officer.

Absolutely.

It's a perfect out for the Liberal party.

LPC "keeps" a campaign promise.
LPC saves over a billion dollars, maybe closer to 2.
Quebec is happy.
LPC voters get to giggle about CPC members being upset and losing money.
Gun owners who miss the $750m pot get pegged as criminals if they don't voluntarily destroy or turn in their guns for $0.
