The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

I'm hearing rumours that there may be some changes coming regarding our firearms laws yet again. Unfortunately, I have no solid details to share as it may only be water cooler discussions at public safety. I cannot say if the changes will be positive or not and I will not speculate. Just keep an ear to the ground for a while.

I had a tipsy yet informative conversation with some hoity toity LPC types last weekend at the club house. They seemed to allude to the same.

But they were also cagey on the direction.

My gut is telling me its good news.

Given the multifaceted and very public push back against the "compensated confiscation" plan, I tend to beleive the same, so I'm cautiously optimistic. But I'm also used to being disappointed by Liberals.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about this yet?

Got another ‘nice’ email today for the ‘final reminder’ to register for the ‘buyback’. Can’t wait to see what the numbers are at the end of the month.

It was reported as about 47K..... I'm thinking it's going to hit just over 50K and that'll be it.

Interesting thing - with the case in front of the SCC, there will be a strong consideration for an extension to the Amnesty until the ruling is passed.

3K more in 11 days is possible. I read somewhere that collection/confiscation will start in early April. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

That is massively low numbers.

I think we may be seeing mass non-compliance. Which heartens me.

Not a Canadian law (yet) but this is the dumb idea of the month out of Illinois. Imagine the font size needed for .17 HMR or .22 cal.

That, and the tendency for soft metal (like lead) to lose it's shape after muzzle velocity/impact; or FMJs to splinter.

Only thing that would be good for is tracing back rounds bought together if a weapon is found in the commission of a crime. Then again, unspent rounds are pretty weak sauce evidence.
