The War in Ukraine

That Trump and his oligarchs are going start bleeding Ukraine dry? Or am I missing something.
the first 10 years all profits are supposed to go into re-building Ukraine and after that it is a 50/50 split so perhaps one of those rare win-win outcomes.

From the article:

This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign and prosperous Ukraine over the long term,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement. “President Trump envisioned this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to show both sides’ commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine.”

He added: “And to be clear, no state or person who financed or supplied the Russian war machine will be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine.”

I’ll believe it when I see it actually play out that way for real.

I am pretty sure China was in Ukraine prior to the latest hostilities developing tech and exploring minerals. Things might get real interesting in the coming months over this deal.

Remember deals don’t have to last forever. As the US has proven they can be cancelled at any time. The 1994 Budapest memorandum being a great example.

If it helps Ukraine get a favourable peace and allows them to position themselves to prevent future Russian invasions then unfortunately that is the sacrifice that must be made. Who knows in 5 years the war could be over, Ukraine could have rearmed themselves with modern equipment and manufacturing facilities needed to supply them so they won't have to be dependent on anyone for their protection.

At that point they wouldn't have to follow anything unfavourable, just like how China ripped up the 50 year deal for Hong Kong, what was the UK going to do about it besides register a weak diplomatic protest?
