Hello, I have an offer for an electrical and mechanical officer. I have a dilemma. I got married recently and my wife is from the USA. I have filed to acquire us residency. This may entail making periodic visits to the US. Once I join as an officer (BMT and further training), will it be difficult to take a few days or a weekend off for making those visits?

Thankyou...

Welcome to Army.ca. Here are some reading references that are core to how Army.ca operates. I strongly recommend you take a moment to read through these to give you a better sense for the environment here. It will help you avoid the common pitfalls which can result in miscommunication and confusion. For those that choose not to read, their actions often lead to warnings being issued or even permanent bans.

You will find a lot of pertinent information related to your questions if you look at the instructions below on how to use the SEARCH function.  Using 'key words' such as "LEAVE", "Travel Abroad", "Travel to US", "Weekend Pass", etc. you will find many of the answers you are looking for.

al2100, depending on how often you have to make these visits and for how long, your leave entitlements and opportunities to take them may make the trips possible.  Do you have to travel with your wife or can she make these return visits alone?

Thanks for the replies! Actually I would also have to make the visits, along with her, so I wasn't sure how the leave entitlements are for the first year with all the training involved.

Thanks...

This is a little off topic as to what you want, but am I the only one that has never heard of that trade?

Are you an engineer? ???

Edit:  My mistake, Electrical and Mechanical Engineer.  Must have been a brain fart, those EME's are great!

Cheers and good luck!

Either you are trying to be a smart ass or you need to spend more time looking at the rest of the CF.
