I'm looking to pick up a tomahawk/hatchet.   I've seen a few guys with them in the field and can see a lot of applications for it (actually just cutting branches and hammering in tent pegs heh) but if I can't use it I'm not going to loose any sleep over it. I do a lot of camping so maybe i can find a use for it there. (ie getting drunk and seeing if i can throw it into tree's)
Anyways has anyone used one of these in the field or bought/used one before? Below are the ones I'm considering picking up (Again mostly just cause i have money to blow). I'm leaning towards the coldsteel one as it seems a little more geared towards camping having a flat end for hammering instead of a pick and a larger axe face.
any input?

Andy Prisco is the one to see for a 'hawk...
I own some of his work...

P.S: You can write w/him on the forum for any custom needs you may have.

I actually have the second kind, its ok if you keep the blade sharp, I lent mine to some numpty who was apparently using it to cut an exhaust hose (the kind with a coiled wire imbedded in it). He had the hose on the ground and was pounding the wire, which messed up the blade edge. I showed him how to cut wire using a Gerber.

I think the first is better, I know from my experience as a Sig Op, you can never have too many implements close at hand for pounding in stakes and spikes! ;D

Try Lee Valley Tools. They have something called a "box tool" that is kinda neat. I have one that I carry in the car trunk, or camping or whatever. Small hatchet head, claw and hammer head. Designed for working in warehouses. Real cheap so if you lose it who cares. About $9.00
