Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

Thats too bad, I was hoping we could see and PP go at it.

If we could never again use the term “mating pair” with regards to any of the members of Parliament, that would be lovely.
In the interests of transparency, that’s a line from “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” :)

It's surprising to see Joly not running considering her speech in September saying it's time a woman leads the United Nations.

I wonder why she wouldn't take this opportunity to lead the Liberal party and protect women's rights. She must be on Team Freeland.
I suspect Freeland will be our next PM. The one thing to be said in her favour is that Trump doesn’t like her. I would worry about anyone he likes.

Her numbers aren’t great. I’m sure she and people like Leblanc might run for the next run at it.

This could be a two and a half horse race between Carney Freeland and Clarke.

I’m happy that key ministers are not running so they can focus on our adversaries to the south.

She has the best chance so far, but I also think she'll have an AWFUL lot of Trudeau Stink still on her - especially after his ... "gracious" mention of how tight they were during his "I'm resigning, but not quite yet" speech. We'll see.

Same. As self serving as the move is politically for both of them, at least there's a smidgen of doing as well as they can for the country during what promises to be a crazy time - unlike the boss.

Maybe she has more EQ than JT, and realizes that she was just a prop in JT’s Sunny Ways Land? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Looks like March 9 for the leadership election
A few more details from Team Red's info-machine, released last night (full text of statement also attached if link doesn't work) ...

Freeland is going to have to continuously deal with her Grandfather's past if she makes a leadership run and if she becomes PM. The grandchild of a Nazi Collaborator will certainly be a mill stone around her neck. It's yet to be known how large or small this mill stone will be.

Maybe its because she wants a chance to lead the party to victory and not to extinction.

I get it. She'd rather win the election than lose. I'm looking at it from an ethical and moral point of view. With all the bleeting Liberals did about women losing their rights and the dangers of "maga conservatives" they should be racing to take up the mantle to protect Canadians.

We all know it's not about Canadians, it's about them.

No shortage of prominent women still rumoured to be running.

I’d rather she focus on her current more important job.

Adversaries? Strange way to describe Canada's security blanket. :ROFLMAO: Are you not from a province with a federal party devoted to Quebec nationalism and sovereignty?

It’s how trump has framed it and it’s the approach he has taken. Adversarial. Nothing strange about it given the last few days. That administration will be and is adversarial.

No I am not.

While we on this forum may think so the average Canadian has ZERO clue about the Nazis or the SS.

Consider this - my wife had no knowledge of the concentration camps the Nazis established nor of the deaths that occurred - 6 million at minimum. And I am very sure my grandkids have zero knowledge of this.

Nah. She has the long view.

She may not be intelligent but she is smart.

I spent 5 years in CFD - 3 of them working in the Future Force Directorate.

I Didn’t GAF about anything that was happening in Horizon 1 or even H2 for that matter. Anything that CJOC was doing today, and tomorrow, including kinetic shit - That was someone else’s job. I lived my day-to-day 15-30 years from now. Every single day.

It can be about Canadians and not have to be about the price of eggs. Has nothing to do with morals. Women’s rights has been an issue since before I was born in 1973 and will for sure be after everyone in this thread is dead. Someone has to occupy that space.

I don’t think she is that person, but today is already tomorrow, and has been since yesterday, in the grand scheme of things.

Freeland is the opposite of Trudeau: smart, accomplished, but a terrible politician. I could see her turning off a lot of people.

Carney is much the same but politically untested. I could see him being Iggy 2.0. I would be surprised if he was interested in being the leader of a rump and being involved in doing the work to rebuild a destroyed party.

Clark is a dark horse. As much as I think she would be a disaster, she has a lot going for her. Not only is she a “blue Liberal” who had nothing to do with the current government, but she has also governed a large province and can mix it up with blue-collar workers in her heels and hard hat. She has also done something that John Turner and Kim Campbell didn’t do: brought an unpopular governing party from the brink of death to victory against the pollsters’ forecasts When she did lose, she still had more seats and votes than the NDP who had to form a coalition with the Greens.

Don’t take this as an endorsement! I think she would be a disaster, more because of her ethical flexibility and chumminess with Beijing. She was willfully blind to the money laundering in government casinos and the effects it had on house prices because she only saw the boost this activity gave to the economy.
