Trump administration 2024-2028

The District of Colombia is pushing back on Trump’s attempted takeover of local police. The DC Attorney General has provided a legal opinion that the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Department cannot be unilaterally replaced or supplanted by presidential decree, and that the last imposes certain limits on what federal control can be exerted. It appears that DC and the Trump administration are on a fast track to a legal showdown over control of the municipal police. Legal opinion matter is included in the DC mayor’s tweet below.

DC Metro’s chief was fired for faking crime numbers, mainly unbelievably low crime rates. Plus DC Metro has long been a bastion of criminal activity in its own.

I don’t doubt that members of the military deployed in Washington will still try to show the way. A vast majority have far too much integrity, far too much discipline and far too much affection for their fellow Americans to become the kind of jackbooted oppressors you see in the worst militaries abroad. They’ll perform a misguided mission with honor.

When that mission is a vengeful, partisan deployment to American streets, however, it risks straining the social compact that binds a democracy to its military. The Army may want to hold the line, but Donald Trump does not, and few people can do more damage to our nation’s armed forces than a commander in chief who is consumed with rage and drunk with power.

The full on equity stake is a new thing. Trump has already recently been inserting the U.S. government and himself personally by name in corporate governance, if you recall the U.S. Steel acquisition a few months back.


The U.S. government taking a direct equity stake with voting rights in a publicly traded company as an instrument of government policy is certainly a change.

How are you supposed to tell the difference between unmarked ICE agents that won't identify themselves and armed vigilantes wearing fake police gear?
