Trump administration 2024-2028

Actually. There is no requirement for more law: The US Senate voted only this summer, 86 to 11 in favour - which is as close to bi-partisan as you can get - of the Lindsay O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026. The House then passed it 262 to 159, again, pretty bi-partisan. The act already makes it illegal for the US, or anyone else for that matter, to import any Russian energy products until they get out of Ukraine.

Don't know if Trump ever enacted it or vetoed it, but in any event, it would put him on the wrong side of Congress.

Quite frankly there are members of current GOP who if Trump publicly offered to surrender the the US to Russia. The harshest thing a couple of members of both houses would say is that " They're pretty sure he had a good reason for doing that and we should just give him some time to better explain it all".

Or “I’m very concerned about this”.

Sadly there are a number of conservatives both in the US and Canada that have fallen for Russia's "Bastion of conservatism" disinformation BS. The new "Useful idiots". I give the Russians credit, they were able to take over western leftwing organizations in the 1960,70 and 80's and now pivoted to doing the same to the far right.
