All 1500+ convictions or outstanding charges for January 6th have been pardoned (most), sentences commuted (a few), or charges withdrawn (any still outstanding). This includes all of those convicted of assaults on police and other crimes of violence. It includes everyone convicted of seditious conspiracy.
Hell of a message to send. Anyone inclined to commit politically motivated violence on behalf of or aligned with team Trump has a pretty compelling reason to believe they enjoy absolute impunity. Sedition is very nearly as serious as it gets.
It’s also quite a message to send to all the police who were injured, and any police who in future may need to contend with political violence.
This is not an act calculated to turn down the temperature on anything. It’s a severe, albeit unsurprising blow to the rule of law.
