Trump administration 2024-2028

Show me where a US law maker was enlightened over the ad. Or where a US senator realized Trump was wrong because of the ad.
How about we show you where the entire country of the US is enlightened.

‘They Hate Donald Trump’: Harry Enten Delivers An Ice-Cold Reality Check On Canada

Canada, he noted, is “far more popular” in the United States than Trump himself, citing a net favorability rating among Americans of +49 percentage points for Canada versus -10 for Trump.

“Pretty much every single time among most Americans, Americans will choose Canada over Donald Trump,”

The basic definition is a Canadian who supports Trump policies and politics.

That can be further defined into sub categories of Canadians that put that type of support over their own country even if those policies are to the detriment of Canada. Like any movement or ideology there are degrees of support.

If you are talking about here on this site, there are 3 I’d classify as hard core Maple Maga and maybe one or two as soft supporters. No I will not name them. Their posting history speaks for itself.

If you are talking about in the public space? PP has been accused of it, most of the Alberta separation movement could be classified that way. Jenny Byrne and Candice Bergen with their Maga hats could also be lumped in there by critics.
So Maple Magas are NFL fans? 🇮

Which was what exactly?

I see:

-immediate termination of all trade negotiations between the U.S. and Canada,
The ad is being used as a pretext. If an ad quoting Reagan that punctured Trump’s tissue-thin skin was all it took to derail a trade deal, then the talks weren’t genuine from their side anyway. Besides, they’ve already clarified that it was more about Canada being ‘difficult’, as discussed above. No real negotiation in good faith is so easily derailed as that.

-10 % increase in tariffs on Canadian goods as punishment for the ad.
All prior rounds of tantrums tariffs have exempted CUSMA, so ‘10% on everything’ is far from ‘on everything’. And the ‘punishment’ narrative ultimately helps us when SCOTUS hears this.

Rather than easing trade tensions, it worsened them.
Sure. Trump is thin skinned and a bully. He doesn’t like being embarrassed by contrary facts. Oh well, tough shit. He’s introduced tons of tension on his own as is. If the ghost of Reagan talking plainly about his basic economic beliefs increases tension, that’s because he has to resolve some cognitive dissonance.

As far as credibility goes the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute stated that the ad mis-represents Reagan’s remarks and that Ontario did not seek permission to edit and use the speech.
They’re utterly full of shit, and Reagan would be spinning in his grave. The remarks were accurately stated and contextualized. They were a presidential radio speech on the public domain and don’t require permission to use. Trump is demonstrably lying, as recklessly as he ever does, and the Reagan foundation is trying to curry favour by prostituting Reagan’s economic legacy for Trump. But they’re making The Gipper’s ghost say and do things he would never do or say.

A report published by the Financial Accountability Office of Ontario estimated that ongoing US tariffs could result in a drop of $17.4B in exports, a loss of 106,000 jobs by 2026, and GDP reduction of 1.7% relative to no-tariff scenario.

People are just trying to spin this the same way we tried to spin Trump being 4 hours late to the Hamas peace deal. Except this will potentially cost us billions.
Yes, ongoing US tariffs hurt us as they hurt literally every other economy, including America’s. One person is responsible for that, and we’re trying to negotiate with a toddler who randomly throws his toys out of the stroller when it suits him. No political leader anywhere can fully control for that. Right now as a country we’re doing our best to ride out the storm. Lots of hope is in the Supreme Court right now, and for a change in tide at the midterms.

I admire your faith in the SCOTUS to vote on principle and not partisans lines.

I'm just being unnecessarily confrontational - I'll go for a walk 😁
All good, I earned some return fire yesterday. That particular salvo though....

So Team Trump announces an 80$ billion US deal with 2 CDN companies - Cameco and Brookfield Asset Mgmt - to build nuclear reactors through Westinghouse, which is jointly owned by Cameco and Brookfield, yet Team Trump continues to run off at the mouth that Canada has nothing the US needs.

Would love to know if that extra 10% tariff will be applied to Canadian Uranium coming from Cameco and will be part of this deal.

Brookfield and Cameco Announce Transformational Partnership to Deliver Long-term Value Using Westinghouse Nuclear Reactor Technology

The ENTIRE article fails to mention the Westinghouse is owned by 2 CDN companies and that those 2 companies are Cameco and Brookfield.

Here is a snippet of the release from Camceo's CEO where he completely sells out to Team Trump by not saying Cameco is a Canadian company but instead says the following:

As a strategic partner, Cameco is a secure and reliable western-based supplier of the uranium fuel needed to support the civilian deployment and long-term reliable operation of Westinghouse’s technology in the U.S. and globally.”

OTTAWA—New research suggests that a minority of Canadians now consider the United States to be the country’s friend, except for Conservative party supporters, more than half of whom still view the U.S. as Canada’s friend.
Data from the Environics Institute shared exclusively with the Star shows that 36 per cent of Canadians currently view the United States as a friend, compared to 60 per cent at the end of 2020 and 89 per cent in 2013, and that 27 per cent of Canadians presently view the U.S. as an enemy, a number that stood at 11 per cent in 2020 and as low as one per cent in 2013.
But when the results were broken down by federal voting intention, the research institute found that 55 per cent of Conservative party supporters still considered the U.S. a friend to Canada — compared to 26 per cent and 29 per cent of Liberal and NDP supporters respectively. By contrast, just 15 per cent of Conservatives considered the U.S. an enemy, while 33 per cent of Liberal supporters and 36 per cent of NDP supporters felt that way.

Maple MAGA.

For the record, I think the USA is a geopolitical enemy of Canada. More so than China.

And you also celebrated the public murder of a person you politically disagreed with.
