Trump administration 2024-2028

It's realpolitik time, and we'd all better get good at dealing with the opposite of everything that came before Trump 47... even the font styles have changed, apparently. ;)

Priorities, right?
It would be applicable only to ESTA applications. It's a ridiculous proposal and strikes me as impractical as well as illiberal, but it's only a proposal at present.
For now - and just for one program, for now.

You can bet the social media search will be to detect any negative Trump posts.

The US should check Putin's posts /correspondence. Bet there would be tons of super negative Trump posts.
And since there’s no way humans are able to rip through that stuff that fast, they’re probably going to be firing those selectors into analytics programs that have scraped social media.

Any businesses or regions dependent on foreign tourism need to be shitting bricks.

I suppose the proposals defenders will advance the customary "we only intend to use it for X" argument, where "X" is usually some variation of Very Very Very Bad People.

I almost would like to see the regulation go ahead, just to see what the first administration after Trump's (or a Trump-like successor) would do. I think they'd be strangely comfortable with the new power. It would have the same flavour as the Obama administration's frantic attempts to turn off their drone assassination powers before handing over to Trump. "We use asserted presidential powers wisely."

The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave....

It should read "The land of the not so free..."

The way I remember hearing it in Tinsel Town,

This is STILL the United States of America, god damn it! Los Angeles, California! Land of the free, home of the.. the ...

Rams and the Dodgers!

I just want to know when all the Canadian athletes who are currently on American teams in a fit of patriotism cancel their contracts, move back to Canada and join McDavid, Scheiffle, and other Canadians in Canada's NHL teams...
Same with those with MLB, NFL and NBA.....not many but still....

This is madness.....and will completely kill the tourist based hospitality industry

It would be interesting to see what happens next years for the World Cup soccer games: tens of thousands of foreigners coming to the US and many of them would be using languages other then English in their posts. In reality, there would be so much info coming in they would probably have a hard time finding a place to store it all, let alone having the time to vet/translate it all.

U.S. farmers rely on Canadian potash fertilizer from Saskatchewan in order to add potassium to their soils. Canada has the largest potash reserves in the world, with more than 1.1 billion tons — accounting for over one-third of the world’s reserves — compared to 220 million tons in the U.S., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The U.S. “does not have sufficient reserves to meet domestic demand,” Fertilizer Canada said, noting American farmers used 5.3 million tons of potash in 2023 while the country produced about 400,000 tons. Canada produced an estimated 21.9 million tons of potash in 2023.

I always thought we should put export tariffs on potash to fight the USA,but I realized that would come with significant pushback from the USA.

Well, thanks to Trump, they will do the damage to themselves.
