In a lot of ways it is. Trump has courted a number of different groups to gain his support. Some denominations support him more than others.

I have a cousin who is an ordained Wesleyan minister, and is also a big Trump supporter... It seems to be a somewhat normal sort of mental gymnastics for many American Christians.

I'm not devout either - in fact more of a heathen - but Anglican is what is on my ID disks.

Someone is Trump’s inner group should have a talk with some elderly Soviet/Polish Communist government officials from the 1980’s and ask them what happened when they picked a fight with a Pope….
