Not a great day for Trump at the Supteme Court:
First, the Supreme Court has upheld the injunction preventing Trump from firing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook pending the resolution of ongoing litigation. This ruling serves to preserve the independence of the Federal Reserve against executive overreach while litigation is ongoing.
Second. SCOTUS has refused to hear Trump’s final appeal of a part of the first E Jean Carroll defamation lawsuit where the court ruled that he had raped and defamed her. This should finalize that first $5m judgement against him. The second and subsequent $83m lawsuit judgment is still under appeal.
Third, in a voting rights case SCOTUS has ruled that as long as mail-in ballots are postmarked by election day, they may be validly counted if state law allows it. Trump has come out quite strongly against mail in ballots and is trying to hold some legislative matters hostage to Congress passing his preferred version of proposed legislation affecting the administration of elections. Today’s court ruling is likely to be very significant beyond just the mail in issue, as it reinforces the constitutional primacy of the individual states in administering elections.
EDIT TO ADD: The Chief Justice has said all remaining cases for this term will see decisions issued tomorrow. The big one there will be Barbara v Trump, the Birthright Citizenship case. It’s a class action lawsuit against his executive order stripping citizenship from babies born in the U.S. to parents without residency status. This one is a very big deal politically, and has broader implications in terms of the president’s ability to override provisions of the constitution by executive order.

First one wasn't a complete loss for him. Federal Reserve is the only one that got an exemption.

SCOTUS has upheld birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment, holding that children born in the U.S. to parents without legal status are ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States and therefore are citizens. Trump’s executive order that attempted to override this part of the Constitution is struck down.
We’ve definitely and reassuringly seen SCOTUS show its willingness to stand up to illegal policy from administration over the past couple days.
I suspect there’s going to be a lot of political anger over this one, but it’s legally correct.

It was 6-3, actually, and at the last and final level. Java sigh was partial concurrence partial dissent, but joined the majority in striking the executive order albeit on different grounds.
Trump tried to stomp on the constitution and lost to a court that has largely been deferential to him. In this case the message is clear; if he wants to achieve this policy objective he can do it properly and advocate for Congress and the state legislatures to amend the Constitution. That’s how separation of powers works.
The 14th Amendment, incidentally, is the same post-civil war amendment that brought the due process clause. Seeing the courts protect it is important.

I’m still scratching my head at the Republicans’ histrionics about how counting ballots postmarked no later than election day somehow threatens election integrity over only counting those that arrive by election day. A postal ballot is a postal ballot. Argue issues with that, sure, but the fixation on that date is weird.
They should really send a team up here to study how we do our elections and maybe learn from it.

Elections Canada is one of our greatest unsung institutions and noone can convince otherwise. Non-partisan districting is a real boon and the whole concept of political gerrymandering like you see in the American system is disgusting.

I think it has to do with the fact Democrats are more likely to mail in vote as opposed to Republicans. Being able to remove those not counted by election day helps swing the election in their favour.
Add in the Republicans like to point to the ‘huge fraud’ in mail in ballots as ‘evidence’ of the election being ‘stolen’ from them and you have a partisan sticking point.
