Trying to find out which Division Great Uncle served wiyh

My grandfather's brother served in the Canadian Army in WWII. All I and the family know is he was overseas by at least 1943, he was possibly a driver and his Legion Last Post announcement mentioned Canadian Armoured Corp. The only photo of him in uniform shows a rectangle with a lighter patch in the center. Would like to find out more about him and I think this a place to start search

Does the photo include his head, preferably wearing headdress with a cap badge?

If someone survived the war, you will need to make an Access to Information (ATIP) request through LAC for their service files.

So, LAC only has some stuff freely available for WW2. Off the top of my head I believe it’s those killed in action. For anyone else they need proof of death and I think some sort of family connection to be able to release records. Not a huge bar to get over, but still a bit of a paper chase.
