U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

Interesting if true. I haven’t seen this posted anywhere credible. Let’s just say the author has credibility issues.

This tells the story, the same story, but without the Carney references

Speaking of dumping US bonds, 10Y yields are jumping up again while the dollar sinks and GLD and Bitcoin are ripping. Ruh roh.

Oof. US dollar index is at a three year low. The markets aren’t responding well to Trump talking about firing the Fed chairman. Investors still demand there be adults in the room.

One way of looking at the subject of national identity might be, when abroad, would a traveler prefer to be perceived as Canadian or American?

Especially in the age of maga 2.0,

Flag-jacking is the act of travelers wearing a foreign flag on their clothing or backpack in an attempt to disguise the country they are visiting from; this occurs most prominently in cases where American tourists wear Canadian flags in an attempt to pass as Canadian. The intention is that by showing the flag of a country regarded favorably by the region they are visiting, they will receive friendlier treatment or service than they might otherwise have encountered.

According to sov citizens travellers are not subject to any laws. Unless driving for commercial purposes then they are. Either way their weird laws don’t make them immune from getting tasered and arrested. ;)

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.
Turd sandwich, giant douche. If the Conservatives lose this, they have no one to blame but themselves for running such an unlikeable, Verb the Noun leader and I hope it blows up the Party.

Reform can be the republican style conservatives and the Conservatives/PC can be the British style tories again. Maybe I can vote for them again then, in the meantime, I'm gonna keep helping out the CFP.

It's also mind boggling to me that they've had 2 years to plan and prep a platform and fully cost it knowing Trudeau was shaky. Instead we get 17 pages after you remove the giant pictures. Poilievre is a vibes politician and honestly, seems unserious.

The Leader’s personality really shouldn’t matter. The goal should be to have the most competent leader, not a popularity contest.
I mean Justin’s hair won some elections where he clearly didn’t have anything to add.

You may be too young to remember the original Reform Party and how the PC’s where on life support before the merger.

The CFP platform seems like a no brainer. However it seems that Canadians are hard wired to only support 3 parties (the BQ isn’t a National Party despite its claim to the contrary) in much the same way that Americans seem to only be able to support 2.

That to me is the biggest thing.

It smacks of incompetence at the highest levels of the CPC. In my mind that means PP has to go, as he literally seized defeat from the jaws of victory by offering nothing other than a ‘I am not Trudeau’ option. The failure to pivot to Trudeau’s departure and release real policy statements is damming.

The CPC members need to insist on a very introspective look at their parties leadership and lack thereof.

In short, in the minds of most voters, Trudeau was a 2, Poilievre was a 3, and Carney was a 5.

This election is showing Poilievre and/or his team are not the most competent, unfortunately.

Ding ding ding! The PC’s were non-existent west of Winnipeg. Even in downtown Vancouver and on Vancouver Island, the PC’s were a fringe party. IIRC, Reform/CA swept most of the People’s Republic of Vancouver Island. Other than Jim Prentice, the PC’s were also in fringe territory in all of the major cities west of Winnipeg.

Yeah, it’s sad that the only party with a serious platform is a fringe party with no hope of coming close to winning a single seat.

Agree completely.

Personality absolutely matters. Your electorate elected someone with an obviously malignant personality, look where that's getting you. As for voting tendencies, this is why we need proportional representation in my opinion. It may not work in the duopoly of the US but in our Parliamentary system it'll better reflect the electorate. Pierre absolutely needs to go, agreed. It's ironic, Pierre probably would have won when O'Toole was leader and vice versa.

The personality of the parties' offerings for PM is as much a part of the platform as X million to one project or another: what are you, party, intending to put in charge of the country, and in charge of implementing your grand platform? Do they seem at least vaguely intelligent and independent, or are they purely slogan-spitters?
