"UnitedHealthcare CEO is fatally shot in a ‘targeted attack’ outside a New York hotel"

I’m guessing it will likely spur some copycats - at least by folks who are either one foot in the grave or have families/friends seriously affected by lack of health care due to insurance costs.

That was the movie I saw! A DUI driver killed a child relative. He got a slap on the wrist, and treated it like a joke.

So, two old relatives ( a WW2 and a Vietnam vet ) argued which one was best killer.

Their arguement was pretty funny. The Viet vet "won" because he had a higher body count.

They had a relative who was an NYPD detective. He tipped the guys off about the prison transfer details. Where and when.

So the Viet vet did "a Jack Ruby" at the train station - in front of the escort officers.

Is Luigi Mangione related to Chuck Mangione?

Court appearance in PA seems to have gone swimmingly ....
NY DA in the case, Alvin Bragg, must be happy to be doing something lower key than the Trump hush money case :) And at least one right-ish commentator is saying he shouldn't handle the Mangione case.

The article says that Luigi Mangione bought something in 1978. As he wasn't born (he's 26), I'm sceptical!

Hard-anti-capitalist left analysis: swing voters as shooters?

Basis of the argument: you can go through the public record of this guy and cherry pick elements of left-winger, radical environmentalist, libertarian tech bro, men's rights guy - even middle of the road.

Some folks would say that this just makes him a guy with a bunch of different opinions on different issues who appears to have something very wrong with him, but that's just me talking.

Or, put another way ....

Apparently, it was a patron that turned him in. Notwithstanding, the average salary as a fry cook is about 13K per year. I think 5 year's wages is plenty temptation.

Assuming, of course, they get the reward :(
For the agencies issuing rewards, it is in their interests that they get awarded if/once the conditions are met. Having word get out that they routinely renege on them would taint future campaigns.

1000% - I just hope that things fall into place quickly. Don't know how quickly that'll be, though, based on this from the piece:
... the FBI and NYPD have stringent guidelines around the awarding such payments.

The rewards offered are for information that not only leads to an arrest but also a conviction. In this case, Mangione would need to be extradited to New York, face trial and be convicted before any reward is paid out.

Plea: not guilty ....
... with this from the DOJ late last week ...
... and this from the World Socialists

Whoops. So he’s caught a death penalty charge as well on the federal side (murder with firearm), plus several other very serious charges that the state penal code doesn’t offer due to the interstate nature of his activity.

In the state side, New York has charged him with murder as an act of terrorism.

I read the federal probable cause affidavit for arrest, but haven’t found a copy of the full indictment yet; if anyone does let me know please.

Mangione is going to be made an example of with these charges.

The charges are more than your average school shooter gets for dropping a classroom full of 2nd Graders
