US plans to shut out canadian defence firms

I have never witnessed the merger of 2 democratic nations to form an amalgamate in my lifetime. I‘m only 22 so whatever eh. I‘m sure it would be unprecedented to say the least. We Canadians have an inferiority complex when it comes to the Americans and we staunchly express our unique identity from the Americans. Why then would you predict Canadians to accept manifest destiny only after 50 or so years when we don‘t share foreign policy, have differing opinions on healthcare and military and whatever else the topic of the day may be. Softwood, steel or perhaps salmon. The idea of the majority of Canadians voting to become the 51st state seems ubsurd to me. What national interest would the Americans have in expanding their borders? If they did so I think it would be by force (lets not go there eh?!). How could they justify it to the world? I don‘t think losing at olympic hockey would cut it either. They would be branded a rogue state in doing so and the world would respond accordingly because the US would be a threat to any nation. It‘s just too silly to talk about. The US losing interest in Isreal? I would think with their popularity in the ME, they would be supporting Isreal more so no? Americans export 25% of their goods to us so they do need us more than you think. As mentioned earlier in a previous post it would be very hard for them to find a trading partner like us. Plain and simple. No comment on China.

In the next half century the most important item of national interest which will face the US on the North American continent is fresh water -- for human consumption and irrigation. In the mid-1970s alarm bells were going off on the seemingly relentness and increasing demand for water in the west, and now those who study water consumption are quite concerned that even places like New York City are going to find it tough going in the future. Anyone who reads the reports of the International Joint Commission (which controls water levels in the Great Lakes) will note the increasing demand by the US to divert water -- at Chicago and Buffalo, for example. There are engineering studies for diversion of water from the Hudson Bay watershed, into Lake Winnipeg and Lake Superior to feed the American demand. And even a diversion of the Saskatchewan River into the mid west.

We have already faced and lost the battle on the Columbia River. Notwithstanding all the convoluted statements by federal politicians, we signed away all control to the US about 20 years ago. Part of the reason, of course, was the pecunary greed of the BC politicians who saw $$ signs in the water as it flowed into Washington State. The Americans have dictated the number and locations of the dams on the river within BC, the river flow, and part of the hydro produced.

Virtually all the fresh water consumed in Los Angeles and that area is piped in from northern California, Oregon and Washington.

Rest asured, when the crunch comes to water we will lose. And I don‘t think it will be a case of Canadians willingly voting to become the 51st State.

As for China, it‘s population and growing economy will make it a superpower, sooner rather than later. China is just starting to flex it muscles. It is modernizing its armed forces and developing a deep water fleet.

Israel is doomed. It just does not have the population to sustain it when its enemies all around grow in increasingly large numbers. And ABC reported last month that there is an increasing exodus of Jews which is approaching the level of immigration. Can‘t find the article, but I think it was on Nightline. At some point, the average US citizen will vote to cut and run, just as they are going to do in Iraq.
