Thanks, I figured there was a morality angle. I was going to go down a rabbit hole about religious people and it's hypocrisy accepting different sins. Maybe another time.

So for my comment I was responding to this quote:

Specifically how he could say it while having had affairs. My point is Americans don't seem to care all that much. Somewhere between 9 and 14 of the last 46 presidents aledgedly had affairs. Clinton definitely did, with a crazy power imbalance, and the US was like meh. His approval rose.

You run a country while saying it's okay to lie because the people seem fine with it. Both Trump and Harris have lied, not a show stopper at all.

I think the difference here is the hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance of MAGA supporters. Your average secular democrats aren't by and large going around preaching about the sanctity of the nuclear family and Christian morals and the need to return to traditional Christian values. So no wonder a Clinton affair didn't phase them. However, big sections of the GOP ARE saying those things, and yet Trump is their guy?
