VAC wait times

Hi all
Long time lurker, first time poster (in this thread)
I submitted a claim, which was denied. There was some info on how to dispute their finding, but I've not dealt with VAC. Ever. From the peanut gallery (and without any detail on what was claimed: suffice it to say that I dispute their finding), is it worth it to dispute them? I'm not sure I want to deal with a government bureaucracy and all that entails.

Cheers!

will be interesting to receive the letter so I can see how they determined everything and compare to what I come up with.
Is this something you've asked to receive separately? Just incase you weren't aware, normally VAC doesn't send this out as a part of their process when approving someone for a successful claim application.

I asked a Legion Service officer to review my file to see if there was grounds to appeal. Once he received all the docs, told me the award was typical of the condition and it wasn't worth appealing for more money at that time. I'd enlist their help especially if it was denied. VAC is an insurance company and if there's a little bit of doubt they deny you automatically and make you fight for less than 5/5 service connection.

No, it is something they sent me on the previous claims and I just received for this claim. Perhaps my wording threw you off.

"arose out of your Regular Force service. Therefore, entitlement is granted, under Section 45 of the Veterans Well-being Act, Regular Force service.• Assessment is 3%, effective July 1st, 2022, under subsection 51(1) of the above Act.• Your assessment was calculated using a medical impairment rating of 2 (non-dominant rating) from Table 17.2 in the 2006 Table of Disabilities and a quality of life rating of 1."

That sounds like the old way. My understanding from the doctor and VAC is that they now use a probability scale that enables them to approve claims they couldn't before. The back is a good example of this as back injuries are considered the hardest to proof. They can now say you have x number of years in the military subjected to doing these type of activities with this equipment so there is a probability that your back injury is a cumulative affect.

Hi All, been a while since I've posted on here. Just checking to see if anyone has done a Lump Sum Election recently and how quickly the money dropped in your account after you submitted the form? I've read back through the thread and in 2021 it was a matter of days between hitting submit and the money depositing, in 2024 it was closer to 6 weeks.....just wondering where the yardstick is at these days?

Hey man,

I received 2 this year, first one in March and the other one in May. First one took 5 weeks, the second one less than 4 weeks.

And as soon your money disappear from your VAC account, it should be deposit into your bank account in the next 3-5 business days.

Mine's at the 3 week mark now and no sign of the monthly amount disappearing from Current Benefits yet. Looks like it's shaping up to be the "recent trend" of 5-6 weeks again ugh. There's nothing fast about VAC these days that's for sure. Same for Appeals. I was told I will have a 12-18 month wait for my VRAB Hearing date from the date it got Registered with VRAB.

Maybe but might help speed up my own. Imagine looking over the divide and asking your co-worker why your stuff isn't done yet. 😁

Positive VRAB appeal middle of March. Still no word or update from VAC and online status still says more information. Emailed VAC and told they have all info and VAC and VRAB separate and that’s it. You would think it would be simple attach a percentage move on to next person

Well, the wait for the Lump Sum deposit after submitting the Election for Lump Sum Form surprisingly did not take 6 weeks as I thought it would. Mine took 3 weeks max. Not bad.

Thought I would post my latest experience so people will see how things can progress.

22 Jul submitted IRB application.

5 Aug Received a phone call from an agent handling my case. She explained what was needed to proceed and that she would send me a letter at my account also explaining it. Turns out that even though you have PSC already the 2 sides don't get to see the medical documentation submitted to the other.

6 Aug uploaded my medical file

8 Aug received her letter (it is dated 5 Aug).

18 Aug received correspondence that medical file was missing docs even though it was supposed to be my complete record. Turns out the electronic file only goes back to the early 2000s and leaves out everything prior.

19 Aug she provided some advice on action to be taken in regards to missing docs.

21 Aug as I have several health problems I received a notice dated 18 Aug that rehab was approved for the 4 of them that was on the medical file and that I was eligible for IRB.

"In addition, following your release, you will be eligible for the Income Replacement Benefit under section 18(1) of the Veterans Well-being Act, as your health problems result primarily from your service. Your Income Replacement Benefit is not payable until the first of the month of the day after your release from the Canadian Armed Forces. Following your release, your benefit will be processed and we will advise you of your monthly benefit amount."

Overall I think this was excellent service as less than a month from incomplete submission to approval.

Meanwhile I have not heard anything from SISIP LTD on the application they sent me to complete and have sent in. I also have not heard from med rcds on the missing documentation or the request for updated MRIs on a few things.

When electronic health records were implemented for the CAF it was done on a going forward basis, as the cost to scan (not digitize) existing files was deemed prohibitive.

That your paper file was missed in the transfer is an oversight on DND's side.
