Voluntary Occupational Transfer ( VOT )

DAA said:
Previously, OT's didn't become effective until the day training in the new occupation commenced, however, I believe this was subject to change.

It changed quite a while ago, as early as '08 for sure (the year of mine).  OTs are now eff (usually) the generic APS COS date, mid-July'ish.

From my VOT Offer Msg in Feb '08:

3. THE FOL TERMS WILL APPLY:
A. RANK: CPL EFFECTIVE 14 JUL 08. SENIORITY AND EPZ IAW REF H
B. PAY: CPL EFFECTIVE 14 JUL 08. IPC IAW REF E. POC FOR PAY DETERMINATION IS DPPD 3-4
C. QL: QL0
D. DEU: AIR
E. VOT TO BE EFFECTIVE 14 JUL 08.  MBR WILL BE POSTED TO NEAREST BTL UPON EFFECTIVE DATE.

Got my instruction message yesterday. Logistiks is already changed over. DEU's should be arriving shortly.

Still waiting but I did get a follow up email today for my Aircrew medical stating that I have been granted my Aircrew factor. Perhaps they were waiting on that before sending out the message. It would be handy to have it for today since my clothing stores apt is tomorrow but worst case scenario, rebook with the one on the other side of town (ours will be closed for leave) after tomorrow.

Definitely waiting on that;  IIRC only AUMB can grant the required AF (4?) and you must have that to be considered "fit MOC".  Congrats, should be the last hoop to jump thru.

Well ironically this forum helps again. Another member mentioned Logistik and I looked there and lo and behold I am an Air Force Cpl. When I told my clothing stores MCpl, she said that they wouldn't need the message as that was official enough.

The last question I have is cap badge: Wear a generic Air Force one or my old trade one on my new blue beret?

The one you call "generic Air Force one" is called the Air Operations Branch cap badge, Air Ops for short.  But yup, that is the one that goes on your head dress.  Sorry, couldn't find a smaller image online and gave up after a few searches.

I look forward to that pidgeon.... :p

Eagle!!!!  It's an Eagle!!!!  :blotto:

The new Royal Canadian Air Force badge hearkens back to the pre-unification RCAF badge. It shows a golden eagle volant – or flying with outstretched wings – on an azure (sky blue) background. The badge combines pride in the past with contemporary spirit; the eagle flying solo reflects the confident, experienced, resilient, agile and integrated RCAF.

This new badge replaces the Air Command badge, which showed an eagle rising from a Canadian astral crown.

Got my instructions today! Let the clearing out begin!

Now I just have to figure out my new cap badge and slip-ons. I know Const Tech's wear the engineer beaver for cap badge and I believe they wear the "engineers" slip-on and not the ones that say Canada. Can anyone confirm this?

My Logistik still says Master Seaman lol. That being said tomorrow morning I have my appointment for my DEU's. Maybe then it will be changed over.

I still say its a S**t-Hawk.

The Logisitik system picks it up off HRMS IIRC.

We know the effective date of the OT. I am trying to confirm that you are not suppose to wear the old element uniform after the effective date. I am sure it is in the Reg that you are not allowed to wear the new uniform until the effective date and not allowed to wear the old element uniform after the effective date. Just need the actual regulation to back myself up.

It doesn't say that in 265 because it doesn't have to.  However...as I said...read the mbr's VOT Offer and VOT Instruction Messages.  I linked to an example in my post above....but for ease: (pertinent parts in yellow)

1. SUBJ MEMBER HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR VOT TO MOSID 00337-01 AC OP

2. THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS APPLY:

A. EFFECTIVE DATE: 15 JUL 15

B. RANK: CPL. SENIORITY AND EPZ IAW REF A
C. PAY: IPC IAW REF B AND C. POC FOR PAY DETERMINATION IS DPPD 2 CSN: 992-0972
D. QL: QL0 (UNLESS PLAR INDICATES QUALS FOR TARGET OCCUPATION)

E. POSTING: MEMBER WILL BE POSTED (NO COST) TO NEAREST BTL UPON EFFECTIVE DATE

F. DEU: CHANGE TO AIR (MEMBER MUST BE ISSUED COMPLETE DEU PRIOR TO OT EFFECTIVE DATE)

7. VOT INSTRUCTION MESSAGE WILL BE ISSUED BY DMCPG 5-3 OCCUPATION TRANSFERS UPON RECEIPT OF ACCEPTANCE MESSAGE AND PLAR RESULTS (IF APPLICABLE). NO ACTION AUTHORIZED UNTIL ALL CONDITIONS OF THIS OFFER HAVE BEEN MET AND THE INSTRUCTION MSG HAS BEEN ISSUED END OF ENGLISH TEXT

If you are looking for a ref that says "you will wear the DEU assigned to you", the only thing I can find quickly (because, IMO, the above is all you really need...) is the following from CFP 265 CANADIAN FORCES DRESS INSTRUCTIONS:

Chap 1, Para 16 (Definitions)

Air Force. Means personnel allocated an air environmental identity and the ceremonial, mess and service dress which matches that identity.

Distinctive Environmental Uniforms (DEU).  Means uniforms which identify the personal, permanent allocation of CF members to one of the three functional environments.

Chap 2, Sect 1, Group and Individual Identity

8.  Overlaying the organizational system is one for personal identity, i.e. identifiers which indicate personal qualification, experience, and “family” memberships. These include branch, occupation,
and flying and specialist skill badges; rank insignia; decorations and medals; and DEU.

9. CF members are allocated environmental identity and uniformed according to the functional branch to which they belong, with each branch manned by individuals from one or more environments.

Summary;  IAW the mbr in question's VOT Offer message, and the VOT Instruction Message, on their VOT effective date, they will no longer belong to their former unit (posted to the BTL on XX Jul 15).  They will also be allocated the RCAF DEU, effective their VOT date of XX Jul 15 and that is the DEU they are then authorized to wear.

The mbr's unit can say what they want to now, but come end-Jul, they won't be the mbr's "unit" and the member won't be a member of their current branch, trade or DEU at that time.  They will allocated the RCAF environmental identity on the VOT eff date and "uniformed according to the functional branch to which they belong".

I miss the old shepherd's crook with wings in the background, the symbology for the new cap badge is too obscure.

It doesn't look like an eagle, more like an albatross. Or steriod-pidgeon!

So who do I goto to get that resolved? Mine still says Army in Logistik, so I can't order any Air Force stuff at all...We have only one Tailor here and they are so busy that I can't even make an appointment until mid July. (I tried to do that weeks ago to avoid this...no go) There is no way for me to get anything DEU related before July 15th.

Base clothing won't even do anything with me until July 9th.

I've had to resort to buying my own slip-on, name tags and blue Beret. I still need some blue shirts...

Yeah, I need to get an Army beret...Logistik hasn't switched it, and our Canex doesn't carry them LOL. Im hoping CROSSING my fingers that when I go to my DEU appointment tomorrow she has one. But I'm certain she doesn't :(

Logistiks does not pick it up off of HMRS. An offline(e-mail) request is sent from your clothing stores to Ottawa with a copy of the acceptance message, Mr Richard LePage is the specific POC. He makes the change within the Logistiks system. From there your clothing stores will order you a new set of DEU through their side of the system without affecting your current points balance.

It is literally the checking of a box and hitting save.

Source: Soon to be leaving the Supply Tech trade.

Wicked! Well thats always refreshing, was thinking that this DEU appointment was just to measure and stuff again. Then had to order all the new stuff!! Yay to keeping all my points! Thanks Bin Rat!
