I’ve received an offer to join the CAF as a Information Systems Technician. I applied while I was working a dead end call center job but I’ve since found a Help Desk position with a major MSP in the US.
I currently make 55k/year
My main problem I guess is that I wasn’t eligible for the recruiting allowance. Makes complete sense as I don’t have a degree but I thought my certificates (CCNA, A+) would be a good enough substitute.
Anyways I’m not sure if I should take a slight pay cut for a few years to join the CAF or if I should just keep upskilling and eventually find a job as a network engineer. The opportunity cost of being with the military for 4 years could be worse than just betting on myself to get a much better IT job.
And as you might be able to tell im really only joining for financial reasons, which might also be another reason why I shouldn’t join (I don’t care much about patriotism).
