40 to 26 says Carney is better to deal with Trump than Poilievre. As I feared, people are viewing Carney as the grown-up “money guy” and either don’t know or don’t care that he’s got the former Trudeau crew working for him. Whenever I bring up his net zero stuff, people look at me like I’m saying aliens faked the moon landing.![]()
Which leader would Canadians prefer to negotiate with Donald Trump? Nanos poll results
Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney would do the best job at negotiating with U.S. President Donald Trump, over Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and fellow leadership candidates Chrystia Freeland and Karina Gould, according to new polling from Nanos Research conducted for CTV News.www.ctvnews.ca
A lot to unpack in this one. Glad support for increased defence spending is up.
Whenever I bring up his net zero stuff, people look at me like I’m saying aliens faked the moon landing.
They had one and for reasons that surpasses my understanding of the world they dumped O'Toole and chose Poilieve.40 to 26 says Carney is better to deal with Trump than Poilievre. The Tories are going to have to up their game. It was easy when their opponent was an incompetent man-child. But things have changed. Now people want a grown-up who can deal with Trump.

Yep. How to deal with Trump’s threats of economic destruction is now the election question. And the money guy headed the Bank of Canada during the 2008 financial crisis that we actually fared well in compared to our peers. Doesn’t matter that I think he’s more of a smarter version of Trudeau. People are seeing a grown up who knows money. That’s the challenge.
Andrew Coyne mentioned that the base is still solid. But for the rest PP is sounding like yesterday’s man.
Trudeau Trudeau Trudeau isn’t working any more. Neither is axe the tax.
PP gave a great speech on fentanyl but most Canadians aren’t buying that that is really what Trump is after.
As for Carney. The CPC are victims of their own PR campaign. They linked everything to Trudeau. Or Trudeau Singh. They are trying to pivot a bit but it’s not sticking. And a lot of that has to do with trump south of us.
PP has been making more legacy media appearances. Something he was avoiding. Hard to be in opposition during a crisis.
Yeah. Unfortunately between his waffling on the convoy and the machinations of the pro-PRC faction of the party, he was doomed. They had one and for reasons that surpasses my understanding of the world they dumped O'Toole and chose Poilieve.

What did he say or do that made you say that?‘man child’
Not to put words in Brihard’s mouth, but I think he was referring to Trudeau. What did he say or do that made you say that?
Are you sure? I must of misunderstood it.Not to put words in Brihard’s mouth, but I think he was referring to Trudeau.
I could have misunderstood him, but that’s how I read it.Are you sure? I must of misunderstood it.
It’s literally in the post I quoted from @RangerRay in my reply. It’s not a point of view I’m adopting myself; I’m saying if that’s how one views the man, then dealing with a ‘grown up’ must necessarily be an improvement. Are you sure? I must of misunderstood it.
The exception to that is people that are fully captured by partisanship and can no longer see country before party-ie. Any benefit to the country that is brought by Carney replacing Trudeau is completely outweighed by him being a larger electoral threat to PP.Regardless of one’s political preferences this is a ‘good problem’. Swapping from someone viewed as a ‘man child’ to someone viewed as a ‘grown up who can deal with Trump’ is an improvement.
There’s tons of room for more improvement obviously.
Indeed. The exception to that is people that are fully captured by partisanship and can no longer see country before party. Any benefit to the country that is brought by Carney replacing Trudeau is completely outweighed by him being a larger electoral threat to PP.
Good point, often overlooked.
