There's sarcasm involved in my response. You can decide what.


I would say it definitely is.

However, what are we going to do about it? We have no way to monitor what's going on. Even if we did, we'd only end up writing a stern letter demanding China to stop. China would laugh and drop more.

If we threaten them, they'll just kidnap a couple of Canadians until we acquiesce.

Of course, they could wait out 4 more years of liberal rule, in which case they'll likely have us as a province and can do what they want.

I also have no doubt, China isn't the only one up there snooping around, dropping sensors and exercising their submarines.

But the same scenario applies. There's nothing we can do to stop them. Our sovereignty is a joke, a buzz word we use to make ourselves think we belong at the big table.

It makes sense honestly. A softening/pivot (especially something so trivial as leaving that out) isnt going to materially help his chances of winning this election. But it might cost him 4 more years at Stornoway.

There are probably still some reluctantly undecided voters leading up to election day who were waiting for the platform, and are hoping to see a late-game display of mature, serious, weighty attention to issues. This ain’t it. Anyone whose vote is swayed by his policy on ‘fighting woke whatever’ is probably already a lock anyway. Making a point of “oh yeah, almost forgot” with this particular silliness probably doesn’t help anything and probably does hurt a little bit. He can’t afford any of that at this juncture.

What I'm saying is I think him and Byrne are already thinking ahead to surviving leadership challenges. Not saying that they're conceding defeat, just that it's part of the calculus. I don't think anyone should underestimate the cult of personality they've built, and the extent to which their communications apparatus holds sway over a large, dedicated, passionate base. As long as they stay true to that base... deposing him as leader is far from the given it should be for someone that choked this (potentially) badly.

Working up the gullible by gaslighting them about thought excercises, needlessly reaffirming the antiwoke bit- these moves dont make sense if they're trying to win over the middle by Monday. They do make sense to keep their base online and fired up.

The double whammy took the wind out of their sails and they had a shocking inability to adapt.

That alone is disqualifying. Trudeau failed to adapt when circumstances changed. Poilievre is learning that as well.

If that lack of ability to foresee, plan and adapt doesn’t make it into the CPC’s post-election Kaizen, then I don’t see either PP or the CPC in its current form, surviving…

While I don’t buy that Poilievre’s seat is in danger, just having to divert resources at all, and having that reported on, clearly paints a picture of being on the back foot. Not good for CPC.
