U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

I am hoping whoever forms the government after the next Federal election invites HRH to read the speech from the throne. An entirely constitutional method to add international attention and gravitas to what should be a foundational, generational begining of a mandate.
Chatter has begun.

The King has indicated several times his support for and connection to Canada, most recently in an address to the Italian parliament. His reading of the Throne speech would be an excellent way of demonstrating to the orange toddler that we are our own sovereign nation.

Kind of like ...

I'm not sure they could stage a Gleiwitz incident big enough to make an an invasion of Canada palpable enough to the world or the American public.
I agree 100% (and love the Polish “fake news talk radio” reference, too), but in today’s info-sphere, you only have to convince enough boosters to cast doubt on any reason or fact.

Overall, in spite of his off moments, I don’t think POTUS47 is intent on invading - more like the 51st state shtick, one of his fallback, autopilot talking points than serious policy.

His announcing today the 100% on 'foreign' made films and Carney's visit tomorrow is no accident.....

I wouldn’t rule out Astro-turf secession movements or “little green men” showing up at certain strategic locations.

I'll be honest. I yawn at the whole 51st state stuff. I saw that as more of a manifestation of the visceral dislike DJT and JT had for each other. Just like his Governor Trudeau comments. But I also think we handled the tariffs poorly, and bent the knee needlessly.

It'll get bandied out every once in a while, but its empty.

Im also never going to be a politician, so all that and $2.50 will get you a cup a coffee.

That bit in yellow can work both ways - pro- and anti-secession - though.

Thinking worst case, an awful lot of energy infrastructure in Canada is in remote areas, with loads of linear eye-catching stuff in wide open spaces away from any population centres. As any cop'll tell ya, can't be everywhere, right?

All this talk about invasion reminds me of a late 1970s era novel called “Ultimatum” written from a Canadian viewpoint by Gen. Richard Rohmer. It involved, of course, America’s need for oil. I never read the novel but, after checking out some of the reviews (I suspect Rohmer is not a particularly great novelist), it might be interesting nevertheless to get a copy and see if there are many similarities with what’s happening today.

Reach out directly to him if you can, maybe you'd be able to get an autographed copy

Despite the damage that Trump has done and is continuing to do to Canada, patriotism in this country try is far greater than I’ve seen it in decades. And I’m hoping it will continue to grow. I do remember how in the late 1960s and throughout the ‘70s authors like Pierre Breton and Farley Mowat helped given Canadians a sense of pride in their country. Thomas Paikeday produced The Winston Dictionary of Canadian English and publishers like Mel Hurtig concentrated on a wide range of Canadian books. Although book publishing is not what it used to be, I do hope that we can start seeing Canada as anything but a boring country.

On a somewhat similar vein, despite all the Hollywood movies and tv series that are basically made in Canada, few actually have Canada as anything but a New York City (or some other U.S. location) lookalike. Sometimes, if we’re lucky we’ll see brief mention or shots of Canada. But now even that is probably going to come to a quick end as Trump is planning to place a 100% tariff on Hollywood productions made outside the U.S. It’s yet another way he intends to make us the 51st state.
