Performance punishment. When Liberal supporters put Carney on a pedestal as one of the smartest and greatest economists on the planet people are going to want results. He should be able to rhyme off those numbers rain man style.

Of course there's people who are going to obnoxiously try and blow everything they can out of proportion with Carney (anything that can be seen as a misstep), the same way others do with Poilievre Smith et el.

What probably caused this to be bigger than it should have been was that Caney originally, stupidly IMO, said the Liberals weren't even going to do a budget this year. That instantly brought lots of attention and opportunity for attack. Had he planned a fall budget from the start this probably wouldn't have been brought up this much.

Why not? We vote for our local MPs and not the party after all.

Right now I wouldn’t want to be leading the government. The economy is about to implode and as a general rule who ever is in power gets blamed, whether it is their fault or not. Better to have the Liberals as the fall guys at the moment than be the fall guy.

Just from a political standpoint it’s almost a good thing for the CPC they lost the election. If they had won a minority they wouldn’t have been able to do much anyways and would have the cross of a failing economy to carry. Without a majority they would take the blame but lack any of the ability needed to effectively do much.

If the GoC doesn't resolve the question - veto or not - decisively and quickly with the latter answer, there's not much point trying to move ahead with expediting any major projects that will be required to wet beaks across a few or dozens of communities. If GoC is going to retreat like whipped dogs from any controversy, they're of no use. The reason people are talking about new processes is because the old ones are detrimental; the reason the old ones exist is to soothe and enrich particular interests; change will require disruption and some interests will lose power and money. The great sources of wealth in Canada ought to benefit all Canadians. As it is, communities with local windfalls don't share much (if at all) with those which are impoverished.

And he’s said he’s prepared to keep Parliament sitting into the summer to fast-track the bill, but the Bloc is committing to studying it fully through committee.
