Well, best to get used to it.

Climate change was predicted to cause hotter, drier summers and increased wildfire risks.

We will all need to adapt as this will not be getting any better. Might fluctuate from season to season, but on a whole, it's going to get a whole lot worse.
If only someone had done something about climate change a decade and a half ago. The youth like me will inherit this problem. Cest la vie.

Frankly, Im glad the union is conducting a wildcat strike. I have no stake in the fight but I have found it troubling how governments seem to increasingly fond of using back to work legislation. Hopefully the court challenge ends up restricting what constitutes an "essential service". Flying my drunk ass to the Bahamas for a holiday isn't essential.

The more governments seek to restrict peoples right to strike and collectively bargain the less likely people will play within the rules. Striking started out as illegal with violent consequences for those in violation historically.

It also turned out to be necessary as it brought a end to the miserable dangerous worksites of the 1800s-1900s. Now with the increase in wage gaps, decrease in standards of living well corporate overlords are living much better lives shows how important it all is.

No real details yet but a tentative agreement has been reached and work is to resume today.

I have to wonder how much the Labour minister’s comments yesterday about a probe into closing the gaps in the Canada Labour Code had to do with the sudden shift from the employer. I’ll definitely be interested to see details.

Well that was unexpected. Bravo to the Union for pulling it off.

"Appearance of conflict of interference."

Mulcair: Government "created an unbelievable mess" with Air Canada return to work order

I remember going to a Mulcair rally in 2015. In Edmonton. Where he talked about getting rid of the oil industry. And when he waited for applause and got a meer scattering of what could be considered applause.

The man has the political instincts of a rock.

Not surprised to see this aged like milk left outside on a hot summer day.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it seems we are slapping a new tariff on...ourselves??

Industry doesn't sound too happy about this from what I've read in the article. Municipalities won't be too happy either.

That's the beautiful thing about tariffs.

They are indeed a tax on the one who levies the tariff. Especially the blanket ones.

All those big beautiful tariffs trump is so fond of. Big beautiful taxes on American importers, which get passed on to the consumer.

Same for our counter tariffs. Big ole tax on Canadian importers.

It's why countries should not get into trade wars.

Why not, we've been doing it with milk and other dairy products to sustain the Quebec agri-sector for decades.

A couple of "survey says" to share ....

Angus Reid: "... New data from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute suggests that Poilievre still holds the support of most Conservative voters (68%) but the group of voters who could have made the difference between defeat and governing the country want a new leader. A majority (54%) of Canadians who considered voting Conservative during the campaign but ultimately decided against it want Poilievre to be voted out in January ..."

A few highlights, including bits pulled from self-reporting Conservative voters:AngusReid-PP-fringes.jpg

How Angus Reid did the survey:
The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from Aug. 15-18 2025, among a randomized sample of 2,020 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum. The sample was weighted to be representative of adults nationwide according to region, gender, age, household income, and education, based on the Canadian census. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/- 1.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding. The survey was self-commissioned and paid for by ARI.

From Leger ....
  • The Liberal Party, led by Mark Carney, holds a lead in federal voting intentions with 46% support among decided voters, compared to 36% for the Conservatives. Support for the Liberals is especially strong in Atlantic Canada (68%), among women (50%) and Canadians aged 55+ (50%). The NDP are polling at 6% nationally.
  • Satisfaction with the federal government led by Mark Carney stands at 54%. Approval of Mark Carney’s performance is similarly strong, with 56% expressing support. Liberal voters (90%) and NDP voters (70%) show strong approval.
Couple of high-level highlights ...

Leger methodology:
The results for this wave of research are based on online research conducted from August 1 to August 4, 2025 with a representative sample of 1,617 Canadian adults 18 years of age and older from Leger’s LEO panel. Results were weighted according to age, gender, mother tongue, region, education and presence of children in the household in order to ensure a representative sample of the Canadian population. A margin of error cannot be associated with a non-probability sample in a panel survey, but for comparison purposes, a probability sample of this size yields a margin of error no greater than ±2.44%, (19 times out of 20) for the sample.

CPC support remained relatively equal, while the LPC only won because the socialists moved over after the collapse of the NDP. Canada is quickly becoming a two party system like the US, however it's unknown if the Liberals will go further left of the Democrats. NDP needs a strong leader because I don't think elbows up support will die too quickly, canadians only care about fighting Trump, which means doing nothing and wearing overpriced t-shirts and making tiktoks.
