Yes well I think if we’re talking about winterizing buildings it’s implied the affected training is happening in the buildings. There’s an enormous difference between the heat going out and a building not being winterized - ie lacking insulation.
H-huts and old armouries were winterized with insulation? Didn't see any of it when I was in them. Maybe I was liquor blind at the time.
Great that’s was 30 plus years ago. This is now. Our pay is computerized, we receive pay direct to our bank accounts, and our pay stubs are emailed out. That also applies to leave, and literally every other aspect of personal administration. You’re suggesting not modernizing a building as it’s too much work so we’ll have to develop a bespoke administrative system for this establishment. Brilliant.
Not suggesting anything about not modernizing a building, just pointing out that we have and hopefully still can function as a military with whatever we have if needed while poking fun at those dead set that it is absolutely needed.
That’s why we have automated response on outlook.
Why, so people can read and ignore like they do? I have an auto on (have had it for years) that gets slight changes when needed for all the good it does. Still come back to a crap load of emails and always several from at least one person. Have even had the "why are you ignoring me" version of the follow up email. Tempted to set up a rule in my last few weeks that sends the email back to them and deletes it from my account.
Sure and for those recruits we sign up how are they going to respond to a 1940s building with no heat and being given hand outs and lessons from an overhead projector older than the high schools they attended? I’m sure that’s really going to set the tone well.
let's do it and find out. now that you mentioned it seems that it could be a good screening process to see how well they handle the adverse conditions. If they can't handle it they probably well not be very useful when the zombie apocalypse happens.
Can we start with PKI cards?
Weeeelllll - back a few years I was at a reserve unit and opened up a drawer of a desk. It had over 200 pki cards that were never issued to the members. Someone decided that as they were all reservists they didn't need to issue them their cards.
The biggest advantage to pre-computer forms was they only asked for exactly what was needed and they were very efficient in layout due to the fact people were directly processing it.
Modern systems often lose sight of the goal of the paperwork in the first place and over complicate what should be a simple process.
true but then there was a disadvantage with some. Use to hate the "must be in triplicate with carbon paper" mentality even though we had photocopiers. Computers coming into play created another big fight as staff didn't want to adapt to them while I created a word doc to complete claims, do the calculations and lined up so it printed on the green pads. "You can't do that", "why not" "because that's not the way it's done".
The "debate" you're having rn might honestly be the most boomer thing Ive seen here lmao. "Back in my day we didnt need heat"
Debate? What debate? No debate, stroll down memory lane and remember how the military was able to function without all these things that are supposedly an absolute must for survival. Can't help it if people want to get all serious and in a huff about it.
Didn't need heat, didn't need gloves, walking 5 miles home in marching order after ex was ok, eating green eggs and ham IMPs cold, keeping rifles in lockers, Oh, big one for me - didn't need a crappy uncomfortable cot for weekend field exercise!! Ground sheet and piece of ground worked fine. Mind you, the MCpls and Sgts all thought I was crazy first year as I would stand outside the tent in t-shirt and camo pants smoking as it snowed while the other privates were fighting inside to get dressed, knocking into each other and complaining about the cold. After they were done I had the whole tent to myself to get dressed in.
Good times - to the mess, dismissed!!
Almost forgot - no to cash pay parades - they always sucked for everyone regardless of what side of the table you were on.
