Yes however im told for the forges, its 18 months from contract signed to delivery. They are not quick things to build.

They got the forges in the 80’s. So 40 years.
There are cold hammer forges in operation from the 60’s still working.

Unless Colt Canada has been doing absolutely no maintenance on them, I don’t understand how they could be possibly EoL.

Unless they need a newer design forge to work on some harder steels - as a lot of the older forges can’t deal with certain hardnesses.

I was hoping Canada was going to go that direction. Earlier this year there was pretty much of a zero lack of interest.
Pretty much every NATO SOF is pulling their country into High Pressure ammunition and realistically that take better barrels and some other things (NDA limited here).

I hope the CA does a decent job finding a LPVO and MRDS, as well looks at all the reasons why 12 O'clock MRDS where stopped using around 2001/2 time frame.

i'd have to check but i suspect this is not the final optic for the C8A4, thing to remember is C8A4 and CMAR are two different projects with the C8A4 being the intermediary until CMAR delivers

CBC is reporting that the Army will start receiving new rifles very soon, as soon as next year. Here is a quote from the Lt.-Gen. Mike Wright, Canadian Army Commander:

"We're on the cusp of signing a contract that will see those rifles start to be delivered to the Canadian Army as of next year," Wright said.

I wonder if that means they have settled on the optic and are still pursuing a DND proprietary reticle or if they are just going to go with a test optic as the program optic.
I have not heard of any actual optic trials outside of the program using the various optics as representative of the specific classes under consideration.

I have not heard anything on the optic, tried to look it up, but seems DLR is keeping their secrets, either way this is good news, as well CMAR has been pushed up to start delivery in 2027/28 (originally 2031) once the new barrel forges are delivered.

It will be interesting to see what Colt Canada’s production rate will be given the Danish contract as well. I hope we go with a IDIQ contract and just maintain a constant production line.

Does the rifle contract demand the optics or could it just be ordered with rails and iron sights with the optics supplied separately?

68,000 rifles complete.
