Army Reserve Restructuring

But Scottish isn't a religion, Sikhism is. How do you have a religious regiment in a country that is supposed to be secular? How do you have a religious regiment that doesn't expect or only allow its members to be practitioners of that religion? Why are we targeting 1 million Canadian Sikhs with a bespoke religious regiment when there are 19 million Canadian Christians, or 1.8 million Canadian Muslims.

@Eaglelord17 has it right in my view. Canada is not a land without god. There are Canadians that aspire to that country, predominantly on the left and in Qubec. But Canada was founded as a land that believed in god and tolerated all believers regardless of what they called god, or what they thought god looked like or even how many versions coexisted. A belief in a higher power, a great architect, is baked into Canada's identity.

People were not punished for going to church, or reading the wrong book, or for the words of their preachers. They were punished for criminal deeds.

It does zero in terms of facilitating reactivation of units. A unit, whether stood up from scratch or moved from the S O B, would follow the same steps.

If anything, a new unit would be easier, as there are no historical / hysterical landmines from the past (including but not limited to patrons).
That's a point of view thing.

Back when I was a subbie in 2 RCHA in the dark ages, one of my extra regimental duties was to sort out the 4 RCHA regimental silver (and stuff) which had become comingled in the 2 RCHA messes and send them off to the RCA Museum for storage in the event of reactivation. A similar thing would have happened when 3 RCHA was put on the SOB when 1 RCHA was repatriated to Shilo. There's talk that it may need dusting off.

For infantry regiments there's a lot more including laid up colours. Then there's order of precedence is resumed etc.

There's a whole back story of a unit that is quickly taken back up when a unit is brought back off the SOB which a newly created unit doesn't have. I know that doesn't matter to some folks. It does matter to others.

Interestingly the Airborne Regiment was not put on the SOB.

3 is definitely getting dusted off, I wonder who the armoured regiment in shilo will be, Fort Gary Horse? The light battalions are also pulled away from the Regiments and formed into one in the modernization plan, return of the Canadian Guards Regiment?

How about the Canadian Voltigeurs?

A monarchist pur laine Quebecer who fought for the British and defeated the Americans.

Yeah the two RegF units that went were the 8CH and FGH. Both of those continue as ARes units. Of the two, the FGH RegF were shut down in 1970 while the 8 CH continued on until (I could be wrong on the dates here) around 1992 when 4 CMBG came back from Germany and the RCD took the 8Ch's place as the armoured regiment in Petawawa. Of the two, 8CH is the senior regiment. All that said, who really knows what evil lurks in the minds of black hatters.

I think I'd just be excited for the stand up parade, first time we have ever reactivated a regular force component of a unit

Flatfoot woodentops do not bring to mind light. In fact to some they are the definition of heavies.

Bring back the Black Watch ;)
Return of the black watch to Gagetown? Thats where they stood down to become 2 RCR. The stand down parade is on YouTube. Now we just need an officer with a Scottish name to command it first, any Colonel's starting with Mc in the infantry right now?
