CAR i doubt would come back, the name has been tainted, they would be better off reviving 1 Can Para from ww2 as a full regiment.

I doubt it.
Each Bn will have close ties with their sister Regiment Bns.
Cross postings will continue within the three existing Regiments more so than between the units inside this new formation.

This new formation will develop a formation identity with the three unit regimental identities still taking precedence for the units. The same as happens in the current formations.

Time will tell.

Which is what they renamed it to before they disbanded the regiment in a forlorn attempt to mollify the political cancelling machine, of course.

Ive seen nothing on how the CARB will integrate into the regular force for deployments, I dont even think thats even fully thought out yet

Just guessing here but it sounds a bit like the Brit system in 3 UK Div where 12th and 20th Armoured Brigade Combat Teams each have a reserve light bns of the same regiment twinned with the Reg F mech inf bns (e.g. 1 Mercian and 4th Mercian (Res) / 5 The Rifles and 7 The Rifles (Res)). They train on the same tactics and on the same equipment and are meant to augment the RegF bn and be reinforcements/replacements for casualties. There are five RegF and five ResF bns in the two brigades.

Perhaps start by enrolling some of those retired NCOs and Offrs that QV referenced in this new reserve, and then have them lead the new entries through the Distance Learning Package as mentors.

And the field work - either a 2 week programme or three or four long weekends.

BASIC EDUCATION

As a new volunteer, you must complete our mandatory basic training of at least 250 hours , unless you have previously served in the military . It is a basic military training with four modules that you must complete within the first three years . (See figure below).

During the training, you will learn about weapons, first aid, combat and tactics, and guard duty. Each module lasts 4-9 days, but you can also choose to complete the entire course over three weeks at the Home Guard boot camp.

The training is divided into three different tracks: Naval Home Guard, Air Force Home Guard and Army Home Guard (including Police and Corporate Home Guard). For all three tracks, it is possible to complete modules 1 and 4 in all local subdivisions of the Home Guard .

Module 1 Introduction to the Homeguard delivered at the local drill hall
Module 2 Basic Education (Common to the Army, Navy and Air Force) - delivered at camps
Module 3 Environment Education (Specific to each environment) - delivered by each environment
Module 4 Guardex (Guarding, Shooting tests, Extraction (???)) - tested locally by the people the new entrant will be working with

Once you have completed your basic education, or if you are a former conscript, you have the opportunity to continue your development with our specialized education and courses. We have many different ones , so there is a good chance that you can build on your training and education with something that matches both your interests and your level of ambition.

Of all the infantry units to bring back, the Guards could be one of the cleaner ones: they're not a particularly encumbered with contentious history, amalgamations, or now-irrelevant geographical associations. But agreed re: things implicit in the name. Heavy mechanized infantry to keep our (hopefully) mass of new tanks company?

The Canadian Guards were always a weird concept. A direct copy paste of the British equivalent without the history. I don't know what the order of precedence is, but I'd rather see the Queen's Own stood up, that way we can have them host the Army run starting around Ridgeway.

The Guards were formed because Simonds in 1953 because being an Anglophile and being given the pleasure of increasing the size of the regular army, and having the ear of the Queen, could do what he wanted and rebadged the existing 3 PPCLI and 3 RCR to 1 and 2 Cdn Guards. That left 1 and 2 RCR, 1 and 2 PPCLI and 1, 2 and 3 R22eR. Six new battalions were also formed: 1 and 2 Cdn Rifle Bn (later renamed 1 and 2 QOR), 1 and 2 Cdn Highland Bn (later renamed 1 and 2 RHR) and 1 and 2 Canadian Infantry Bn (later renamed 3 and 4 Cdn Guards) The Guards took 1st place in the order of precedence.

And they were stood down 17 years later, and placed high in precedence because of a name that had nothing to do with a task, or history. QOR were a regular Bn more recently, don't have the weird history, and are in my list of Regiments that don't have overly regional names. That's also why I'd prefer 8 CH over say FGH. In the end none of this really matters.

(the 2nd Bn QOR had previously been deactivated on 31 Aug 1968 and its personnel reallocated to other units.) It was all part of the post unification reorganization and downsizing dance.

Hence if one wants to reform the QOR as a RegF bn then rebadge 3 PPCLI back as 1 QOR . Voila. Full circle.

While the QOR don't have a particular regional name, the original QOR, like the 48th Highlanders are intimately bound to the early history of Toronto with the former tracing its history back to 1855 and the latter to 1891.
