Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

The benefits of immigration to the receiving society is not immediately apparent, even in Denmark

Coincidentally, in Canada, the Liberals have managed to make Canada less attractive

....

This will hit the Universities hardest - and they have been some of the Liberals strongest supporters. And home to many Guilbeault supporters as well.
If the Liberals simply ran an efficient government we could have the best of both worlds.

Foreign dollars pouring into our universities to educate foreign students, and students who actually leave once their visa term has expired.

(My sister got deported from Australia because she had her flight booked for the day after her visa expired - wasn't allowed back for a 5 year period. Clamping down on
Heck I even signed (twice if I recall correctly, lol), the petition to repeal the Brexit vote results.....
I fear the UK has a long, dark period of history ahead of it...regardless of whether they Brexit'd from the EU or not.

(Brexit didn't really affect their trajectory at all in the big scheme of things. It just complicated matters & muddied their trading relationships - but their final destination didn't change.)

As George Carlin famously said, "It's a big club, and you ain't in it!"

The Liberals became involved at the point where the program design, funding authority, and ministerial accountability sat with a Liberal government and a Liberal minister.

It wouldn't make a difference if it happened under a CPC minister.

Basic vetting ensures taxpayer money isn’t given to organizations with serious conflicts or risks. The party has a sordid history of half-ass vetting with shitty results. Just like we seen with Birju Dattani.

You're also skipping over the center piece of the story; the Liberals concealing their deal with him.

Public funds were disbursed without proper oversight or accountability, and action only happened after the problem became public. Transparency and vetting shouldn't be partisan. It's been 10 years of the same behavior and same excuses.

Wasted money which we don't know the fate of. That's not transparency.
I'm confused. Elected officials don't actually run these processes. By design.

Yes, and everyone knows that there are LPC commissars in every office ensuring that they do the bidding and keep all PS in line bribing them all with 6 figure salaries and their downtown mansions.

Okay. But the whole point of the PS s that it is supposed to serve the government of the day, not a particular party
Thats fair. IMO given the constant vetting issues were seeing coming out of Ottawa I'd say it's incumbent on whatever party is in power to clean the process up.

Successive governments want the combination of increased delegations and freedom of action by the PS to be more agile, and centralized approvals.

Its winter in Canada and we now import a vast majority of our fruits/vegetables and the CAD is much lower against the Euro and USD, viola, increase in prices.

If we could only get CDN's to eat less fruit and vegetables from Nov-Apr this would go away.

:D

EDIT:
Here's a chart from CNBC yesterday for some selective price increases in the US.

In other words, they want a system like the one upon which ours was, supposedly, based: where apolitical public servants manage those things that are approved and help cabinet decide how to tweek the system to make it more efficient and effective.

Are you implying that our grocery prices have been steady or declining and this is just a normal temporary increase ? And this increase is really just fruits and vegetables ?

Grocery price inflation highest since the end of 2023

Prices for food purchased from stores rose 4.7% year over year in November after increasing 3.4% in October. The increase in November was the largest since December 2023 (+4.7%). The main contributors to the acceleration in November 2025 were fresh fruit (+4.4%), led by higher prices for berries, and other food preparations (+6.6%).

In November, prices for fresh or frozen beef (+17.7%) and coffee (+27.8%) continued to be significant contributors to overall grocery inflation on an annual basis. Higher beef prices have been driven, in part, by lower cattle inventories in North America. Coffee prices have been impacted by adverse weather conditions in growing regions and rose amid American tariffs on coffee-producing countries, which have contributed to higher prices for refined coffee.

On a monthly basis, grocery prices rose 1.9% in November, the largest month-over-month increase since January 2023.

I'm suggesting that a spike in overall food prices, lead by fruit/vegetables over the winter months is a naturally occurring event - made better or worse depending on the value of the CAD vs the USD/EURO year over year.

Its a 'known' event - just like there tends to be a 'spike' in unemployment in July when all the ECE's, EA, Para-professionals across Canada all claim EI in July/Aug and then stop in September due to the way their employment contracts are set-up.
Case in point - my wife is a SLP (Speech Language Pathologist) for a public board in the GTA. Every July1 - Sept 1 she claims EI (along with thousands and thousands of others in the job categories I mentioned earlier) because the school board only pays her (and them) for the duration of the school year and no more, thus they all can claim (and receive) EI during the summer months. As a result, Ontario (as an example) is hit with tens of thousands (ECE's in Ontario number close to 60,000) of people claiming EI staring in July, which artificially bumps up the unemployment rate.

Tho is why for many economic numbers we see the notation ‘seasonally adjusted’- employments a big one for that. It’s important to know whether such seasonal trends exist when trying to assess the state of any aspect of the economy over the short term.

Interesting petition has dropped regarding the use of the NWC by AB and sask

I’d be amazed to see disallowance used. It’s been a long, long time since was last whipped out - over 80 years. It would be a political nuke.

I didn't even know it existed till now, I agree it would be a political nuke, one Carney would be taking a big risk in using in a minority situation. It would also send a message for sure
