The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

If they are only going to compensate firearm owners for the first 136000 firearms that leaves a hell of a lot of firearms and firearm owners SOL. Just on the ones that were previously Restricted. This doesnt pass any sort of fairness test at all
Quite the betrayal.

If you don’t participate in the back door registry attempt and tell them what you currently hold, you don’t get to participate in the compensation portion.

You can say a lot of things about the LPC but I'm not sure I would call this a betrayal. Unless you voted for them.
During and after the election Carney promised to represent all Canadians yadda yadda. They promised Canadian firearm owners fair compensation. Now they're slashing funding in half to try and manipulate Canadians and create an environment of fear - all because they're political cowards.

Anyone who voted Liberal gets to wear this one on their conscience.

All PMs say that. But you and I are the kind of Canadians. So he didn't really mean us.

Of course now I'm hearing Liberals say we should stop the confiscation so we have some guns to fight back with.

Anyone that consistently votes liberal could care less about your guns or problems, other than to steal them from you. Ideologues have no conscience.

Listen to this from their site

When the declaration period closes in March 2026, all submissions will be reviewed to determine which will move to the claim submission stage. Only those who have submitted a declaration within this timeframe will be considered eligible for the collection process and compensation.

Really hammering home the fact that compensation isn't guaranteed. They expect the money to run out very fast. I wouldn't be surprised of the $250m is slashed again and gun owners recieve even less.

They want gun owners to register firearms all at once and collect a bunch of info on unregistered firearms. Why would they need to know how many shots it is if they've already deemed it prohibited?

  1. To begin, you will need the following information:
    • a list of your prohibited firearms that are registeredwith the Canadian Firearms Program, and eligible for compensation, including:
      • firearm reference number (FRN)
      • make
      • model
      • serial number
      • These will be automatically added in your declaration based on Canadian Firearms Program records, but you should verify the information for accuracy.
      • firearm reference number (FRN)
      • make
      • model
      • serial number
      • capacity/shots
      • gauge/calibre
      • barrel length
      • You will need to manually add these to your declaration.
That's a lot of work to maybe get compensation, but guarantee the government knows exactly what you have.

edit - not sure whats going on with formatting and font sizes

I'm really not sure how people can square that circle honestly.

If you're gun owner voting LPC why haven't you just gone to your local PD and handed them in ?

I understand there are more voting issues than firearms but to me it's about private property rights and the Gov being allowed to trample on taxing paying, innocent citizens. It's simply wrong, in my books.

Im not sure how they think I should have to hand in my guns, and still be obligated to defend them. You want to take my property, and then you want me to fight for yours.

I dunno, I'm having and internal struggle...

if theres ca 1.3 million registered restricted firearms
only 250 million in compensation
for 136000 firearms so 1800 per seems high either way a lot of RPAL owners are left high and dry, never mind all the OIC banned firearms
such a strange stupid program with no attempt at good faith at all

This is a pretty big Liberal and progressive win, no?
Depends if you think restrictions on gun ownership is progressive (I don't), whether you think restricting gun ownership is a 'small L' liberal foundational policy (I don't), and whether you think restricting gun ownership is a "healthy" policy for the "big L" Liberals (I don't). The only way this is a win is purely of the basis of "we said we'd do it and we did it". Regardless, what's it have to do with me and whether or not *I" am embarrassed?
