Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

America seems to be the only one Carney cant get a deal from, and he has stated he wont sign a deal thats not in our interest. Tells me america is trying to work us over rather then give us a fair deal.
Ofcourse he's going to say he won't sign a deal that is not in our interests...he's the PM for crying out loud lol

He's SUPPOSED to say stuff like that. We pay him a metric shit ton of money to say stuff like that!

He'd be a bad Prime Minister if he said anything BUT that! 😉

Him saying he won't sign a deal that isn't in our interest doesn't necessarily mean America isn't trying to offer us a fair deal...

Although I doubt they are. Why would they??

...

The whole nature of negotiations is that each side starts off with some requests/wants that seem unfair or unrealistic to the other, and in theory both sides agree to something reasonably fair somewhere in the middle.

We shouldn't expect them to offer us fair deal. Being extremely close allies & friends for more than a century should afford us to not be presented with unreasonable nonsense though...

Just my 1 cent 🍻

Carney goes to Europe. He gets deals done.

Carney goes to the middle east. He gets deals done.

Carney goes to China. He gets deals done.

Why is negotiations easier with everyone else?

An Airforce that emulates Brazil, Czech Republic, Hungary, South Africa, and Thailand is way better than emulating weak countries like the US, UK, Japan, and Australia.
The UK has a mixed fleet. So does the USA.

Bad example.

i think thats more pragmatic
Yup.

5 GlobalEyes on order with options for 3 more (Sweden and Finland)
6 for Canada
Denmark looking at 4
NATO looking @ at least 6 to replace the cancelled Wedgetail order
Egypt, Germany, Greece, Saudi looking at unspecified numbers

Promises of Pan Canadian supply chains... moving some the radar/avionics to Canada?
Do Gripen's export prospects change when a with the diplomatic weight of Canada added to the pitch, and multiple European countries second guessing their Biden era purchases decisions?
How much of Flygsystem 2020 could we lever?
Could Bombardier and Saab get a viable MPA to market to fill the void if countries want to avoid the P8? Leonardo/Italy think it's a good idea.

Going beyond aircraft, we're clean sheeting a class of missile armed corvettes - they have a suite of naval sensors, systems, and missiles that could quickly become Canadian

The vision and ambition is awesome to (hopefully) see.

So you think Carney goes with the 13 percent wanting just the F35 and ignores 72 percent wanting some form of Gripen purchase?

Okay.
I think he orders enough F35 to keep things going no more no less and not the whole 65 or 88 in one go
I dont think we get Gripens unless it ties in with some greater initiative. Public support is good but unnecessary

A defense equipment purchase policy off EKOS polls and popularity among the elbows up shit show.

The Eurocanard of choice should be Rafale but the French are no fun to work with apparently
Notice how the French have a indigenous airframe, the Brits as well, as well as the German, and Italians.

Even when they buy the F35, they support homegrown fighter capacity.

We don't have that. We could have that. Which is why jarnhamar is being intentionally obtuse. The Gripen isn't just about the airframe but having a domestic stake in an fighter aircraft.

When he asks how many Gripens the Brits have he's ignoring the Brits investing in the Eurofighter and running that fleet in order to support their own (via europe) fighter

i agree but at this stage i question whether Trump would veto the Gripen purchase

Are you sure about that?
Like, no deals with China? Maybe around November 2025?
Trump puts tariffs.

China retaliates.

Trump removes tariffs.

China responds.

Deal!

You don't get credit for putting out the fire you yourself started.
