The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Mea culpa. The point still stands though.

Why is LE issued firearms that are designed to kill the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time?

Because sometimes, that's our job.

There is more than one name on the RCMP Memorial in Regina there because they were hopelessly outgunned in the rolling gun fight.

I am referring to trudeaus reasoning for banning them. I doubt LE were issued them to kill the most amount of people in the least amount of time as the government professes that is the only reason for banning them.

I am not putting any blame on LE. I hold the deepest respect for anyone in uniform. I'm pointing out the double standard of the current government.

Perhaps not very eloquently though.

Semi autos are no more dangerous than that .22 Cooey bolt gun in the corner. They are inanimate until a lunatic or untrained person picks it up and starts fucking with it. The operator is the dangerous portion of the equation.

Yes they are. Take some disgruntled young adult who's got an infatuation with mass killings and a beef with the world. He can do a lot more damage and keep LE at bay more effectively with an AR-10 than he could we a Cooey.

I would be impressed if he had an AR-10, not exactly common.

Quite the epidemic we are having with long guns of all types

And he could still do more damage with a F150 than either one of those. Vehicle attacks are more dangerous than firearms attacks.

Believe it or not, there was a move underway in British Columbia to allow local councils to ban private non commercial ownership and use of large pick up trucks from urban areas- under the guise of pedestrian and public safety.

What’s considered urban in BC?

Once again, my point is being conflated. I did not say that long guns, and more specifically semi auto long guns, were the main source of gun deaths in Canada. All I said, and nothing more, was that a person with a semi-auto rifle, and especially a high calibre semi-auto rifle, has the capability to do more damage/cause more deaths and resist LE better than someone with a single shot 22LR (unless Fish was referring to the Cooey 60), especially if they are novice shooter.

That might be for various reasons, not necessarily that they're more dangerous; it could be because handguns are more popular, because they're cheaper, or of various causal factors
Handguns are generally smuggled in and used by real criminals in nefarious circumstances

It is because criminals mainly use handguns (primarily smuggled from the States) to commit crimes. They are used because they are easy to conceal, walking around with a long gun gets noticed very quickly.

Most shotgun/rifle homicides are generally domestics which if they didn’t have that firearm still likely would be done by knife, hammer, etc.

And environmental controls. Remember a prison is theoretically the safest place around.

There is a continuously simmering argument from the urbanites to ban large SUVs and trucks. Essentially the downtown/uptown-set don't want us rural peasants on their hallowed ground with our rural vehicles.*

I think far more could be done to prevent pedestrian deaths if we actually educated people about the dangers of walking into traffic unaware, and enforced penalties for things like jay walking. The same applies to cyclists, well more than half of the issues I have seen with both groups is entitled people not respecting the laws of physics or the other road/sidewalk users around them.

*This ties into the main topic, because it comes down to people who don't use/understand a thing seeking to limit other people's ability to own/use the thing.

* ok

Opinions vary on "rural".

According to Statistics Canada, in 2021, there were 5,957,695 rural persons.

No gun rack in that monster.

I’m about as rural as you can get. We have a RAV Hybrid, prohibited guns, a lesbian in the family, 3 bibles and lots of solar panels. (And actual farm trucks, none of which are jacked or even large).

You kinda proved my point...

The guy is a douche who imagines the urban elite exist despite the depredations of the unwashed masses outside the urban centre. He is the very cancer I described in my quoted post.
Isn’t that the kind of truck usually parked in long lines at the shacks?

When I hear "farm truck", I picture something from the 1950s...

You described yourself as "rural".

us rural peasants

I'm not rural. Although we dont have sidewalks. 😀

The guy is a douche

The guy got a lot of angry comments,

I think its more accurate to describe me as someone who would b3 described as "rural" by the typical activist, such as the kne you posted.

I live in downtown Ottawa, against my best judgement.

As for the second video from the same activist...

He's cherry-picking extreme examples to make his silly argument seem more rational.

If you were as much of a believer in his style of city as youd like to present here, you'd be demanding sidewalks and low-rise apartments in your little "village". Except we all know you're inordinatly proud of the lack of sidewalks and low-rise development in your little boomer haven.
