Not surprising. We in the west have long felt aggrieved at the lack of representation we receive in Parliament. To make things more equitable requires opening the Constitution, which no one wants to do. So we’re stuck.

A zero to one seat margin isnMt a great position… A buffer of ten or twelve seats would probably feel better to him. But- as @Halifax Tar says, and I agree, I think he’s more focused on getting things done.

That said I wouldn’t rule one out in the summer/fall timeframe, pre-budget.

I'm not sure it's just about "getting things done", I suspect it's equally about the optics of "getting things done". Part of the lack of popularity of the LPC was the cynical mid-pandemic election they called because they were polling well at the time.

PMMC is likely smart enough to not want to be seen falling into the same trap. It helps his brand as a "serious leader" to work with the the parliament he was made leader of at the end of the last election.

he is in a great position as long as he is seen to be working. With the conservatives in a no-win position there isn't a great likelihood that pp will trigger an election and the conservatives are the only outlier. The NDP is non-existent and I can't think of a confidence motion the Bloc would introduce that PP couldn't finesse agreement if necessary whilst having a couple of abstainers or absentees. Will it go the full 4 years? Very possible unless Carney reneges on a promise or fails to deliver as advertised on an issue big enough to cause a swing.

Imo the under represented west is just reception not reality. Per capita Alberta has a similar seat count to ontario. Where to problem is, is that since Ab, and Sask usually vote predominantly conservative they only get a voice in opposition unless the conservatives form a government. Usually being an elected liberal in AB for example means a Cabinet position is almost guaranteed to ensure regional representation

There already is representation based on population, and Senatorial and Grandfathering Clauses to account for shifts in population density

You hit a key point there.

The people of the West don't have the same political sensibilities as the East, and see their views and way of life being trampled by the East.

That's not a problem of seat distribution, it's a problem of "winner take all" politics. The East gloats over their victories, and thumbs their noses at the concerns of the West. Over time that builds resentment, and can only be fixed by not ignoring them because they didn't vote the "right" way.
