so how does the rest of the world clear the strait without supporting the U.S. actions? And it is becoming increasingly clear that other nations are going to have to do something as their economies can't survive without fuel.

US actions closed the strait to begin with.
I think that other nations want them accountable for that.
The US could start by removing tariffs and taking a bit more of a conciliatory tone with those it wants to come rescue them.
Other nations will just cut a deal with Iran and pay the toll to get their ships through.
What we need to do and what we're willing to do are two different things.

Letting tankers supplying oil to non-US aligned nations pass through the Straits while still preventing US-allied ships to go through? Wild that Iran can - while getting absolutely pounded - mostly effectively close an international strait and deny innocent passage through same, and force shipping (that it so allows) on a toll basis through its internal waters. And that this can be seen as anything but a major strategic blunder.
The rest of the developed world may indeed have to part of cleaning up this mess, but only because those who made it can’t or won’t.

Consequence of having one side that mostly follows the rules, and one that doesn't, and insufficient penalties for the one that doesn't.
The other side can deny traffic that provides any benefit to Iran, if it wants to.

Very few if any companies are going to risk running an IRCG blockade - the fact that doesn't appear to have been a plan put in place for this is pretty concerning. (We know there are various plans for pretty much everything under the sun, so it appears the Administration went ahead without bother to either ask about them, or if briefed on them, they certainly where not implemented.
Isreal probably ignored a lot of this in their calculus, as they don't rely on oil through the SoH.
Now I suspect they expected the US to ensure the free flow of oil through the Strait as global pricing will effect them.
Short of very non capitalist market controls to decouple North America from the global oil market - one has to wonder what the Administration has planned.
And for some levity
Given that “Iran doesn’t follow the rules” was one of the predicates for this entire war, and given how utterly predictable closures of the straits been, the abject failure to adequately plan for and safeguard against this is inexcusable. There’s no way the U.S. military didn’t anticipate and plan for this eventuality, so there was a profound decision making failure somewhere in the senior executive.
