Updated Army Service Dress project

I just am dreading the day that they are all issued out and the inevitable return to DEUs for us non-CJOC cubicle dwellers in the NCR.

The men’s looks great.

But why are they going to that awful American “female tie”? I thought that was a thing of the distant past? Same with pocketless female tunics.
It is better than the dickie that we were wearing when I enrolled before the environmental uniforms. But back then, I was happy to transition to a tie. I was so tired of the guys whining that the women had it so easy because we didn't have to tie a tie. I tied a fresh knot every damn day because it wasn't so hard.

I was happy to get the breast pockets as well. Lining up name tags and ribbons/medals without them is a fiddly, annoying process and I was seldom actually satisfied with the result. Still struggle with the minis on my mess kit.

Tunics seldom look good on any female figure unless you get it properly tailored. (And no one bothers with that anymore given their limited use.) Having run a clothing trial back in the 90s, I learned that you seldom get anything resembling consensus amongst female service members, and I don't expect that has changed much.

For my understanding talking to DSSPM pers at a display, females can decide if they want the neck tab or a regular tie and for the ties they will be offered in normal untied and also pre-tied ties .

If breast pockets aren't an obvious requirement, as they have been deleted on the female uniforms, why keep them on the men's?

Even if more were needed to win the war, the quantity was limited to the individual services requirement. Navy - none; Army - one; Air Force - two.

Its not a RCAF purchase, not sure why you would get it?
I'm not expecting to get it. But when all the Army folks in Ottawa are finally issued theirs, I imagine the CDS will reverse course on their decision to wear operational dress in the NCR. And yes technically it is the Comd CFSU (O-G) making the dress Regs for the NCR, but this was a CDS decision due the shortage of Army DEUs.

A couple more images that have come out, including a better look at the CWO and officer ranks. CWO rank insignia will have a coloured outline based upon trade. CWOs employed in a non-trade specific capacity will have an outline to match the jacket.

Ooh like flavours of crayon?

Zooming in on the pictures, it seems the officers pips are also colour co-ordinated.

Ohhhh boy, there will be howls of rage in the NCR if that happens.

I don't mind my N3's, but I'm in the vast minority.

I'd add that they are also about tradition, which is the the new CA DEU makes so much sense. It's not a 100% return to pre-unification, but it's close enough to be clearly inspired by the older uniforms.
The new uniform is an aesthetic improvement, but the "this is about tradition" crowd really misrepresent the amount of time that Canada had previously worn that version of British Army uniform as our standardized service dress.
  • British model khaki uniform: 1903 to 1968 (65 years)
  • CAF Green uniform: 1968 to 2026 (58 years)

Umm, the Canadian Army.

The Navy and Air Force were in the garbage bags from 1968 to 1985, a whole 17 years.

Are RCAF DEU items in short supply as well? I remember reading a while back that there was an issue with the fabric being so old it was difficult to source. My assumption is they're using the same stuff for all 3 uniforms in different colours.
