Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Carney could still mess up the marriage but until such a time
Yes indeed he can. And in my opinion, he will.
Doug Ford comes to mind.
Your kidding right? I voted for him in 2018 and 2025, and from most I know, in the beginning he was elected because people were truly fed up with Kathleen Wynne and almost immediately he was pissing just about everyone off. He kept getting elected because the alternatives were simply terrible.

steady marriage period
So starts off right away with putting a bunch of committees into secrecy? Even Political Pro Liberal pundit Chantal Hebert said this was stupid.

What i think, is he waiting for Trump to do something not popular and he will give another long, big worded speech amounting to nothing that excites Liberal boomers who "think he is so smart"

Of course he will. Its a matter of when.

You are very close to having a moment of self reflection.

Sure. But if a tree falls alone in the forest, does anyone hear it?

There are many things i think will break through the Canadian public consciousness, like the ford plane fiasco. But with the Iran war, trade war, Ukrainian war, high gas prices, and trump tweets, i dont think committee shenanigans is that thing.

I think he pulls plug before 2028 and runs while trump is still president.

In this case, the tree is NEVER alone. Someone or many someones are always watching. Always.

Yes, I think we agree on this.
Youre right, someone is always watching.

Whether the general public cares is another question

As for election, i say spring 2028,events notwithstanding.

Events indeed shape everything. To quote Master Yoda "Always in motion is the future.."

IF Carney says "see ya" and bails in 2028 (we agree this could happen), I think we will see another Liberal leadership race first and then someone sitting in the chair until spring 2029.

I think its more likely he seeks a fresh mandate in spring 2028 to deal with the new administration in order to finally hammer out CUSMA

Carney is easy. It's hard for some to get this. But with Carney in charge the average person doesn't have to think about politics. They trust that shit is getting done. Maybe it's not perfect. Or what they always want. But something, somewhere, is getting done. Some people may find that idea contemptible. Fair enough. But if you want to understand why the guy is popular this is part of it.

So what you are saying is he reversed many of the Liberals policies that got them voted in for the past 10 years and kept the Conservatives out.
Now he is implementing those changes and his voter base is happy.

Makes one wonder how their supporters have not realized the liberals wasted billions of dollars in actual money and billions more in potential money over the past 10 years. Yet still support them running off the Conservative parties platform.

When the money actually runs out (which is soon) we will see how effective the current government is.

Perhaps Canadian voters did not feel that there was a viable alternative on offer.

Not always. Kathleen took Ontario with a majority in 2014 and by 2018, she couldn't fill a minivan and she was incumbent.

Trudeau kept getting elected until I suspect his party caucus was about to lynch him, hence his retirement.

Doug Ford, convinced Ontario he deserved a third straight majority and now he lower than the Ontario Liberals in the polls and they don't even have a leader yet.

Have you ever stopped to think that the whole point of an election is campaign is psychological and they do everything they can to get your vote using both fear and hope?

I strongly suspect the Canadian population is going to get fed up with Carney fast. He was slipping the polls last fall, then Trump dropped an elbow smash on Venezuela simultaneously Carney gave his all fluff-so substance Davos speech, and boom, he picked up again.

In the meantime, many Canadians probably feel like the parents have finally come home after a long period away and shut down a raucous house party run by the (drunken and stoned) kids.

Wouldn't it be better if the warring factions simply declared they don't like the 'other side' and moved on?

And there lies the weakness of the Canadian population...political ignorance.

Ironic that the best Liberal PM in the last 60 years was Paul Martin and he only got three years in power.

Funny thing is, though, that a lot of people who’ve hated Team Red then & now we’re bashing him pretty hard at the time. Funny what a bit of time & distance does. Lookit how Bush Jr. (or even Sr.) was assessed while he was still at ‘er compared to now.

That’s why some say history’ll be the true judge.

People are going to be annoyed when in 15 years or so Justin Trudeau is similarly rehabilitated

The base isn't relevant here. What matters is the general voting public. And the LPC adapts to public concerns. That's what keeps them in power. Conservatives are, understandably, frustrated with this. But that's how the game is played. Voters can change their minds on issues and priorities. That's allowed.

If he is, they sure will be. I always stand to be corrected, but I don’t predict he’s going to end up in the same pigeonholes (or even ballpark) as Martin.
