Rioting across UK cities (summer 2024 and beyond)

I keep remembering the young girls/women drown by their own father, mother and brother in the locks around Kingston roughly 20yrs ago.
It was actually the case that caused me to make my comment. And no Brad, there may not be many but a few is too many.

why not provided the term VALUE actually meant something and didn't change with the season
Good point.

Some people say words don't matter as long as we know what people reeeeeeeeeeeallly mean, as well as the "sticks and stones" defence against words some people are offended with, and that language usage changes over time. Others say words matter because it's how we express and explain ideas.

An example: this one time, a Canadian PM highlighted a range of values as being Canadian ...
  • openness;
  • respect;
  • compassion;
  • willingness to work hard;
  • to be there for each other; and
  • to search for equality and justice
... and a lot of folks now calling for a "Canadian Values" pledge now didn't seem all that happy with that.

those are good attributes true but there are some very important descriptors missing from that list: Commitment, Consistency, dependability, truthfulness.

The one about 'to search for equality and justice' is a bit tooo socialist sounding for me. Sorry. Sounds too much like 'No justice, no peace' or 'Each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.'.......

Deaths of four Afghan women in Kingston "an honor killing"

Then there was the case of a young woman fleeing her family from Canada to India to marry someone outside their caste, they were kidnapped by some hired thugs, killed the guy and then the thugs called the Grandmother here, asking what to do with the grand daughter and she said "Kill her" even the thugs felt that was a bit much.

Why were they so well organized?

What we know about how Northern Ireland's riots were organised

There has been three nights of violence on the streets of Northern Ireland.

Homes and vehicles set on fire; water cannon deployed; more than a dozen police officers injured; and an atmosphere of fear has descended with reports of people being threatened for having a "different skin colour" and families being put out of their homes "because they're black".

It all came after a knife attack in Belfast on Monday night, for which a Sudanese man has been charged with attempted murder.

Within hours, social media was ablaze with footage of the attack quickly followed by calls for protest.

Many of those protests passed peacefully but, elsewhere, hundreds of masked people took to the streets and violence followed.

But how did so many people mobilise so quickly and what role did social media play in the organisation? BBC News NI takes a look at how a violent attack led to days of disorder.

"OK, so some of the people coming into the country are having difficulty adjusting to our social norms. As long as we can keep a lid on our own indigenous peoples, we can tolerate a little crime and disorder from the newcomers."

"Oh, fuck..."

Some probably still have their old fan out sheets lying around too...

From watching Taser Tuesday , before the cuffs go on, you hear a lot of , "I wanna call my mom!"

Presumably, so Mom can "fan-out" , and send back-up to the scene.

Why were they so well organized?

A lot of people seem to be familiar with the drill.

Am I the only one thinking “Come Out Ye Black And Tans” takes on a bit of a different feel these days?
