Despite the narrative that is developed over the last 3 to 4 years, if not longer in the Canadian armed forces, things may not be as they seem. Another way to say that is that the opposite of toxic masculinity is not enlightened femininity. It is in fact toxic femininity

I'm not so sure about a purge. She definitely was on the right track and she and I agreed on so much. There are others in in the senior levels of the CAF who also share some of her views.
In my experience, Policy people in the PS (and often academia) have a tendency to be quite staid in their thinking. The knock-on effect of that is bigger than one would think. Especially in the public service. There isn't really a leadership class or a route to leadership in the public service that doesn't go through the gateway of being a policy person. In the PS, the opposite of a policy person is someone that is in ops. You can see how that may manifest itself. In fact, it's pretty obvious that it is already manifesting itself across the public service.
Just a few thoughts

“Fearless advice, loyal implementation”. It’s the old public service bargain that they should offer the best advice possible and keep concerns and criticism private, then loyally carry out the policies determined by those who are politically accountable.
Now with that said, when someone is specifically and deliberately interchanged to an external organization that has a specific place in the policy debate ecosystem, meaningful participation therein should mean that person is, within reason, afforded the latitude of the hat they wear. Otherwise a fair bit of the point is probably lost.

Very, very concerning that the CBC, yes the CBC, the NDP, the greens, the bloc and of course the Conservatives are really upset about motions and bills not be debated or very little debate.
This is NOT a good look in my perspective and refelcts poorly on the governing Liberals.

Agree with all of your comments, and that she has a good case. However, I wonder what her motivation was to write that piece and have it published. From her position as a DG in north tower at pearkes, it seems she had the ‘fearless advice’ part of the equation covered but what about the ‘loyal implementation’? She would have known before the article was published that it could cause problems. Maybe I’m biased though since I’ve become allergic to individuals that refer to themselves as ‘architects’.
She had a great position as DG Strat policy to influence decisions and argue for the type of cases she outlines in the article. Maybe not sufficiently enough for her though, politics next perhaps?

I respect your insight and perspective operating in similar circles, but a couple things come to mind, but I’ll limit it to two major points that come to mind:
1) I believe the title of her opinion piece was unnecessarily inflammatory. While she didn’t have the experience of the likes of Vincent Rigby or Dick Fadden, she went in tactically guns blazing and an issue that could have been more convincing without the bombast; and
2) She most likely would have been consulted on the draft of the G&M article following up on her secondment and know that she was described as the ‘principle author’ of the policy. Technically, would that not have been ADM(Pol) themselves, with her (DG Def Pol), PCO Ln, DG IS Pol, Cab Ln and others also participating? While she wasn’t a mere secretary taking notes, I think she stretched her purported pivotal ‘architectural work’ in the publication of the DP.
This is not to say that she doesn’t have a case, she most likely does, as you point out, but she absolutely knew she was poking the bear, as it were. I’ll continue to look for the writings of Rigby, Fadden, Vigneault and others to make well-considered and communicated cases for Canada getting more serious with foreign intervention and nefarious work by our adversaries and the place that economic factors and policies have in that space.
